Hey guys I just posted my first post the other day telling about my recent purchasing of my first dsm. 97 gsx. I'm pretty much a newbie to the entire turbo world, though I've owned a 96rs for about a year now. My concern is that the gsx I just bought has 130k on the engine. I have no way of telling for sure what kind of abuse its been through. I'm saving up for an engine rebuild and my question is 1) what can I have done with the rebuild to prevent the whole"crank walking" thing and 2) about how much would you say I'm looking at for this? I'd really appreciate the help.

Crankwalk won't happen. Any engine that may of cw in the past probably already has and 130k later if it hasn't, then that probably shouldnt be a concern

Yea makes senseLOL and that's a relief thanks. Anything I should be aware of though? I forgot to mention it has a 16g turbo and a couple other mods so should I modify the engine itself in anyway to accommodate for these?

I can't help you out to much with that, but if your running low boost. (15psi or lower) then your engine probably won't need to be built. (from what I've read on this forum). It is probably a good time for a rebuild though

a rebuild is seen on these forums only when the car dies on you. Myself, on the other hand, am also saving up for a rebuild kit bc my car has about 170 on the clock. There are a few vendors on this site who sell these kits, and also a few on Ebay. Personally Im gna go with this guy.

Ive been emailing him for months and he knows what he is talking about.
Good luck man

Verify it's a real 16G and not an eBay jobber.
What fuel and tuning mods do you have?
Do a compression test to see if you should worry about a rebuild or not.

If I had the money I would rebuild, It will bring your efficiency back up and solve any lurking problems.
I am about to start saving for mine because my N/T has the famous head gasket problem...
but yes they have many rebuild kits throught many vendors here and like the other guy said...
CHECK THAT TURBO... if its an Ebay turbo than It won't last as long as a brand name turbo...
and it won't boost as well or work as efficiently either...

Famous hg problem on a 4g engine? Does that have something to do with the oil near my spark plugs?

Hey I'm also starting to mod my car for racing, my car is bone stock right now and I'm wondering how much it will cost roughly to get it to racing performance? And ideas?
