Ok, so I've decided to rebuild my engine. It's out of a 97 Eclipse GST and I was curious what the best thing to do with it is. I plan on putting more into it later but just for starters since I'm going to have the engine out and apart what exactly should be done? Should I bore it out? Should I get a wideband? Should I get a new thermostat? I just need tips or a general direction to go in.

I would take the block and crankshaft to a machine shop bro, they will tell you if you need some work done. but if you think your block and crankshaft is good. i would change the bearings on the crankshaft and rods. and if you going to use the same pistons i would change the rings to. new seals and gaskets. hope that helps

It's been having major overheating issues and a leak has developed somewhere. It's not that it NEEDS a rebuild but I mean what could it hurt?

just because its having overheating issues doesnt mean that your motor needs rebuilt, flush the radiator, put a new theromostat in and see if that helps, why waste the money if your block doesnt need it,try other things before you come to the conclusion that you need to rebuild your block if it doesnt need to be rebuilt, but thats just me,if you wanna rebuild it by all means go ahead but why if it has a leak try to fix it,do you smell coolant out of the exhaust, can you smell antifreeze on the oil dipstick if not than look at other things before you rebuild it

I'm exploring my options right now. I should have it into a mechanic by weeks end to find out exactly what's wrong with it. If it's a cheap fix I'll do that but I do have the money for a rebuild right now so why not? I'm almost positive it's not a block issue but I'm just curious on the whole rebuild process.

Ok, head gasket is gone in the car and I'm still looking for a direction to go in as far as starting the rebuild. Please nothing about "Just fix it and wait." I'm rebuilding the engine no if's, and's or but's. Where do I start after it's out of the car and in pieces? Would just your run of the mill rebuild kit work? Besides that I'm looking at replacing the pistons so what would be the best way to go about that?

Anyone out there have any suggestions?
