well, i decided to rebuild my engine after many weeks of denial thinking my engine will come back to it's normal state. what my question is that, i've been looking around (machv.com and slowboyracing.com) and i notice those rebuild kits for $500 and i was wondering if that would be a good way of going. i do want more performance since i am taking the whole engine to it's bare. i have "plans" but i was thinking if this kit would be a good way to start off with since it comes with a full gasket kit and bearings, just pretty much the little things you wouldnt find to easily. what, I'm getting at is, if this is a good way on going to rebuild my motor or should i purchase everything seperatly. any help would be appreciated

Personally, purchase everything seperatly...

Cometic Head Gasket
Ross 8.5:1 pistons
manley or equal rods
BS removal kit
"blue" timing belt
block reserfaced and bored obviously
reaseembly roataing assembly and have the ( rotating assembly balanced )

Head:
1mm oversized valves
new guides, stems, seals
HKS 272s, or FP2 cams
decked with the block

and all OEM gaskets from there

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME...trust me :D

OHH AND ARP EVERYTHING :thumb:

If your "kit" involves purchasing OEM Mitsu parts, go right ahead. I will never use a Topline product on my car if at all possible. A member of another DSM board I'm on just had his freshly and meticiously rebuilt engine blow on him after using Topline parts.

thanks a lot...i knew those rebuild kits were a little iffy. and again...what kind of brands do u recommend for parts to purchase for a guy who's rebuilding. my pockets aint too deep but im willing to spend on the best. i know some out there, but i jus want more of an option then jus the regular stuff i hear around the net.

It really depends on your goals. If you don't want a fully forged motor, I'd go with:

6-bolt block
2g pistons
1g rods
no balance shafts
OEM gaskets/seals
Mitsu MLS headgasket
Clevite bearings
1g head
TB, water pump, oil pump, pulleys

Then you would have an excellent set-up that won't send you to the bank crying.

If you want to spend a little more, go with the Wiseco/Eagle combo. Great bang for the buck.

Also if you are ripping everything apart, you might want to consider replacing things that are easy to get to while the motor is out. I.E. any clutch/tranny work you may want in the future.
