Engine issue what to do?

Ok so I been looking at the tranny for the longest time as the issue to what I deemed to be the problem of why my car is not producing power when i put it on drive. I was under the impression it was starting at third or fourth gear in my a/t. After a rebuild of the tranny and $1000 later problem is not fix, come to find, after a compression test the number 3 cylinder has 0 compression and the #1 only has 35. 2 and 4 are producing 165, any idea on how I can resolve this problem without spending an arm and a leg. I think its a flush valve. So any help here guys would be great...oh and I got only about 2 months left till I ship off to Japan so I really need this fix in a timely manner.

sounds like a blown head gasket or cracked head or block. the center two cylinders get the most heat.

hmm..really head gasket..With 0 compression on #3 cylinder and 35 on #1 you think changing the head gasket will fix it?

do a leak down test. it could be piston rings, ring lands, bent valves, or a cracked block or head. does it burn or boil coolant?

It doesnt burn anything just has like low oil pressure

I had the same prodlem in a previous car and it turned out to be bent valves. I am still puzzled on it tho. They were bent just enough to not shut properly. Just an idea! Hope you figure it out!

Ever broke the t-belt? Kind of hard to bend valves with a DOHC set-up, they tend to NOT float valves. Head gasket, MAYBE, but not with two cylinders down that are NOT side by side. I'm betting, as stated by 92Tsi, that a leak down test will show you that you have little or no compression due to rings, and not a head gasket, or bent valves.
