Hey Everyone,
Finally had time to pull my motor this week. Took about 2.5 hours, which I think is AWESOME for a first timer. Suprisingly straight forward. Anyway, I am trying to do my build right, and I want to take advantage of having the engine out to replace stuff that would normally be very hard to do while the engine is in the car. Any suggestions on things to replace or do while the engine is out? The engine itself will head to the machine shop for rebuild (forged bottom end). Also, anybody have good recommendations for cleaning the bay of grease and grime?
Secondly, while I prep the car for the turbo, I have a few questions about it.
1 - I dont have access to E85, Race Fuel, or 93 Octane pump gas. With 420A's and 91 Octane(Which is the best I can get where I live), is there a suggestion on max PSI with that type of gas?
2 - With timing, I know you really have to start messing with Timing at 15lbs, but is it recommended to adjust timing before you get to that point? I dont want this car to just "work", I want it to work correctly and still be as reliable as possible.
3 - I am trying to find a turbo that is about on par with a 16G that has a T3 flange. I dont want a T3/T4 hybrid but I think a straight T3 might fit the bill. Not looking for crazy power or to max its potential out. Just something that spools quick, is moderately priced(I am not buying an Ebay turbo), and can be run reliably. I dont have a particular HP number or anything I am shooting for. This will NOT be a track car/Drag car/race car. This will be a commuter car with mostly highway/freeway driving. I plan to run between 12-15lbs (depending on what the answers are for the first 2 questions).
Thanks in advance for everyones help!
