Yes, you can I've done it a couple of times. But I find it easier to just pull the engine all you have to do is pull the crankshaft pulley and unbolt the clutch from flywheel. This well give you the clearance you need. This way you don't have to disconnect shifting cables, take off your wheels, unbolt the ball joint, remove the axles from hubs, remove the crossbar, and then last remove the axles from the tranny, which well spill that tranny fluid that cost 18 bucks a quart at the dealership, cause that's the only place to get it.:nono:

not necessarily too many problems to expect. if the motor is old then you might into rusted bolts or corroded threads. My 95 had bolts snapping left and right becuase they hadnt been touched at all from the factory. the best advice i can give u for that would be to Take Your Time. its more time consuming then it is difficult. make sur eyou label alot of things, and do it once and right. and for your sake (many others will back me up here) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont forget the little O-ring down in your bedplate! many people (including myself) forget it and you will leak oil. :nono: fix for that= engine pull AGAIN. no shortcuts...

You can, I think Blitz is just warning you against the difficulty of removing the two together; not to mention, the very real possibility of snapping bolts while pulling it out. There appears to be enough clearance, just remove as many things as you can before you attempt to hoist the block, otherwise you'll just run into a lot of snags. Good luck.

I pulled the trans first then the block when I did mine. Doing them at the same time would be hella lot easier if you ask me... I hate lining the trans up to the block.

Good luck with your pull

We basically have everything taken out. We ran into a few problems that i hope you guys can give me the solution to. How do we take off the shift cables from the tranny? i cant get to the bolts that are underneither the cables, as well what size are the axles nuts? and as well we are going to take out the wiring harness....is this possilble? it seems that the wires seperate from the ecu under the hood and go in the the chasis of the car while the others are the engine harness. so is there a way we can take the harness out or do we just have to push it off to the side while we are pulling the engine. the tranny should not be a problem cause we are just going to drop it out the bottom first. the last thing though is what is a bedplate? kinda need to know what that is so that i dont forget the o-ring...thanx for all the help in advance

The shifter cables are just held to the tranny with cotter pins. All you need to do is slip those out, and the shifter cables should come right off.

The bedplate is the section of the block that basically holds the crank in. In other words, the crank goes right in between the bedplate and the upper section of the block. You'll know exactly what I'm talking about once you start disassembling the engine.

What is blocking them? The intake manifold? Take off what's necessary to reach them, it's all coming off eventually anyway.

dont forget that o-ring! and labeling! BTW i must say i really like that blue on your car. Looks really good... :thumb:

Ok, I know what you're talking about now. There should be two clips holding them to the bracket. If you just pry them off with a screwdriver you should be all set.

Here's a picture; I circled what you need to look for.
