hey guys i swapped out my engine in my eclipse and put a 95 eclipse engine in i started it and let it run it idled great!!! then i jump in the driver seat to check my guages my oil gauge was reading zero its the factory gauge then i seen the oil light flash and turned it off immediatly what could it be i broke the wire on the oil sensor could that be it? i mean i didnt hear any knocking or anything

Is this a fresh rebuilt engine or is it used? The first and easiest is to check that your oil pressure sender wire wasn't cut off during the install. The second (especially if it is recently rebuilt) is to ensure you have oil pressure by either removing the timing belt and manually spinning the oil pump or more visibly just checking various ports in the head to see if fresh oil has been circulating.

Whatever you do, DO NOT turn on that engine again without making 100% you have oil pressure (although if you let it idle for more than 15 seconds without any real oil pressure, you're already going to have problems).

i bought the engine off a guy on this site and he told me the motor had 20,000 miles on the rebulid and the only thing i should change since the engine was out is the balance shaft and timing belt. i noticed that the wire on the oil pressure sensor was ripped and barely hanging on by a strand man i hope its not something big.

If the wire is torn or not even on the pressure sender then your gauge probably isn't functioning correctly. Best bet is to chop the wire and re-solder it, extend it with new wire etc...also, the factory gauge is quite crap, grab an autometer oil pressure gauge (electrical pressure sender, not mechanical), can't be more than 50 bucks.

Agreed. Sound advice here.

So, how long did you run the engine for when you idled it?

i started it up just to see if it would run then shut it off when i noticed the pressure guage down i swiched the oil pressure sensor off of my old motor to see if that was the problem then thats when the oil light flickered on so i shut it down and put my original pruessure guage back on and havent started it since. but i didnt noticed that the wire was hanging by a thread so im just gonna try and re-wire tommorow and pray that helps. does it make a difference if the car is on jack stands? the front end is jacked up im gonna go buy a oil pressure switch to see if that makes a difference i just remebered the prong was broke so its barely hanging on. guys pray for me

Hey guys i bought a new oil sensor switch w/light and still nothing i also fixed the wires. when that didnt work i went and bought a pump and started pumping the oil threw were the oil sensor is still nothing. i started the car to see if the gauge would move theres nothing happening so i popped the oil cap off while the engine was running and i see oil moving around? theres a belt screaming where the crank shaft pulley is would that have anything to do with the oil pressure? the oil light pops on as soon as the belt starts scraming
