Engine free revving after VCE install

Just installed a VCE and removed t-case and driveshaft. Took the car for a test drive, it drove fine until i floored it and instead of roasting front tires it just free revs the motor. Feels just like the clutch is slipping. ( the clutch is good)

What can cause that?

I assume something broke inside the transmission.

The car is a '91 with a 5 speed.

Did you put the retaining ball back in?

Took the end case off the trans today and everything looks fine in there. Removed the VCE and on the output shaft there are two holes on opposite sides. One of them had the retaining ball in it but the other one was empty. I assume it's supposed to be like that?

Any other ideas or anything i can check while i'm still in there?

Yup, that's correct.
