So i just bought a basic shell (no engine, tranny, front bumber, rear bumber) 98 GS with power everything..interior and exterior pretty good shape for $300..i originally had planed as a project car with a 4g63 transplant but from what i heard its a royal pain. Now im not sure what to do. Money and time are no object because its a project. I found several importers that have the 4g63 engine however i cant find a damn place that sells 420a. I want to get it from a company for the warranty and such. What do you guys recommend me doing. im willing to get all the required parts for the swap because the car dosnt have any of them anyway.

It's almost impossible to swap a 4G into something that should hold a 420.
Sorry buddy, looks like you should part your losses and buy a GST/X.

well since i dont have an original engine for it..what would i all need to make a crate engine work?

Finding a 420a at a junk yard would probably be the easiest route to go. The 4g swap will kick your ass unless your great at wiring. I believe the engine mount brackets have to be welded in as well.

there is no place to but a strait replacement 420a with everything i need online? i dont have a core because the engine was already sold when i got the car

Wiring aside, the 4G just won't really fit. Period.
I'd look into a junkyard, because I wouldn't trust a website for crate engines, most are overseas anyways.
I've heard a lot of horror stories with crate engines, just go to a junkyard buddy!
Welcome to the horrible world of DSMs, enjoy your stay.

I agree about ebay but its kinda ify.I would much rather buy one from a junk yard and rebuild it knowing every thing is done correctley ,as long as u got a warranty i guess you can feel safe.Another site to try is thedsmgraveyard.com im sure they have some 420a engines with warrantys you just have to look a bit harder.good luck with the new project.

well first off its not impossible to do the swap, and i would recommend it, it will take some work but like u said its a project, so much more u can do and the potential is endless just about, i would say go 4g63, let me know if your serious about doing it and want more info on a 4g63 swap ill make a few phone calls and ask a few of my friends who have already done it, and as for picking one up let me know as well i know of a few right now just let me know if your serious and ill do some look ok let me know later

Why don't you tell your friends that have done it to become members here and share some pics / info with us since there don't really seem to be any successful swaps here out of over 70,000 members.
