Hello,

I'm trying to purchase a 4g63t, but the store says that 94-96 engine doesn't fit 97-99 chassis and vice versa. How true is that?

There are some slight differences in the engines but should fit as long as its a 4g63t.

To answer you question if the engine you buy is a 7 bolt motor, you'll be fine. The only difference that you will most likely encounter is the intake manifold + throttle body as well as the cam sensor. You will need the 2gb style cam sensor for the 97, which is located on the passenger side of the intake cam. The 2ga (95-96 engine) sensor is located under the intake cam gear.
