I wouldn't bother taking a lot of stuff off to clean it. I would just buy some engine degrease, get some rags, and borrow a power washer. I wash the engines in all my vehicles everytime i go to the quarter car wash just to keep up with it.

im not talking about degrease clean, im talkign about ridding the engine of parts that could be removed. and as clean and beautiful as that engine that was posted is, my friend "fonz"'s bay is sooo immaculate and ridded(Sp) of parts. im going to be uploading a pic probably tuesday of it.

Well post up a picture of your bay so we can point out what to take off. Removing cruise control is frees up some rooms and looks better IMO, but you're going to have to buy a new cable to replace it and i can't remember off the top of my head model is the replacement. Making/buying new UICP makes it look better, taking off the exhaust manifolds heat shielding, replacing rusted parts etc etc. It is kinda a waste in my eyes but it your money and i can respect that.

FYI so the mods don't get on your case there is a spell check feature.

remove ac, power steering , cc and relocate alternator to back of motor then take the wiring and move it all down on the fire wall

That would be a bi*** to work on....where did the brake lines go...and the brake MC, and why put the coil pack like that? That motor is clean...but a little overdone...

thanks man! my friends 1g looks just as clean as that if not cleaner! were going to be removing some things/moving some things around on tuesday so that list of what was removed is going to help ALOT! im also installing my upper/lower ic piping form dejon tool on tuesday. any advice on how to get my turbo xs h34 BOV to NOT leak. i have a boost leak from the 90 degree adaptar elbow and then the bov itself. ONce again, thanks for all the immediate help. i love this website.

if you are going to take out the ac get this at the bottem
biggest thig would be put the batery in the back
then take out the rest of that crap you dont need

Just curious if any of you guys have painted your heat shields, o2 housing, or even the exhaust mani?

I found some paint that withstands 2,000º and just a little higher. Do you think that would withstand the enormous amount of heat the 4g63 puts out? The reason I'm asking is: I'm putting a new turbo on and it comes with a new ported E.M. ported o2, and on top of that my heat shields look like poo. The o2 is rusted pretty good so i was wanting to knock off the rust and paint it up and keep it from rusting again and then to just dress up the engine a little.

Let me know what you guys think would be my best option...

I've had good results with just sand blasting. I sand blasted my exhaust manifold about half a year ago and it still looks new and silver. That way there is nothing to burn off.

The other option is to have your parts jet hot coated, but sand blasting is cheaper.

you could just not put the heat shield on. sand blast the rest, as blackGSX2g stated above. then you have a clean look under the hood.

BlackGSX2g, did you coat the manifold with anything after sandblasting it? Or did you just sandblast it and slap it on? If you had any pics it would be cool too. This one doesn't look like a very appealing exhaust manifold. :)

Hahaha, yea I forgot about that pic. That is pre-sandblasting, so you can imagine the difference :D

But no, I did not do anything else to the manifold other than sandblasting. After awhile it started to change hue a tiny bit by the collector where it gets red hot, but it is still looks like it just came from the factory :thumb:

Here's a nice 'after' pic of the manifold. Don't mind the greasy finger-prints, I just replaced the oil feed line and haven't started it up to burn off my fingerprints. It really does look new in person.

EDIT: I snapped another close pic

Don't leave your heat sheild off. You will melt the A/C Fan and possbily cause heat damage to the alternator, they are there for a reason.

Blackgsx2g that engine bay looks amazing, wish mine was that clean...looks like another project to add to the list.

I have heard a few people say not to take off the heat shield but it seems i see more and more engines with it off, have you had any issues BlackGSX2g?

All these posts about exterior pics and paint jobs. I was just wondering if the engine bays reflect the exterior.

Nobody will touch this.
