hey all, trying to get off the probation on this site... im about to get my engine bay soda blasted this week, and its time to start painting the bay, since my motor is completely built ready to be dropped in! anyone have shots of their engine bays cleaned up and painted prior to dropping the motor? wanting to get some ideas. thanks! (not new to dsm's only the web page).

i did 4 coats of Por15 Semigloss black to prevent rust forming or getting worse. I dont have a pic without the motor but in my dsm profile there are a few engine bay pics

Good news, I have a company coming by tomorrow to soda blast the bay. I will take pics of it when it's primed up tomorrow..!

I'm interested in this for a 2g as well. I wonder if there is a write up on filling in and shaving the bay if you're deleting emissions and such?

Here's a few of mine as I was putting the motor in recently

Definitely want to get as much done as you can before you put the motor in, short of the wiring. It's a little difficult to know how much to extend wires when you're tucking, if the motor and accessories aren't in place.
Since you are getting it painted, now's a great time to fill in unused bolt holes and the like if you want the clean shaved look.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I got the bay blasted, but can't upload pics (using phone) and haven't figured it out yet. It went well, now we are going to seam seal it again and start to paint it soon.

I just did mine. I kind of regret the way I did it but whatever it still looks ok. I used Eastwoods 2k aero spray paint. I choose to do it that way because I didn't have a air compressor or paint gun so this was the next best thing. There spray cans are very finicky and didn't seem to spray well consistently so I ended up with some flaws in the paint here and there. The color I picked is close to a satin black.

I almost went that route with the por15. I didn't end up using por15 because I didn't go down to bare metal on the firewall. You should have used there paint that goes over the por15, not that it gets exposed to uv rays much because its under the hood but I think that paint will eventually start fading. How is the por15 holding up so far?

your pbotobucket account is xasuing spam on my phone and computer! Its not letting me view anything longer then 3 seconds before it crashes the page and brings up ad upon ad

I'm planning on using tractor paint, in black. Pops is a cowboy, has a good point "how many times have you seen a caterpillar get shined up, and look how long that paint lasts"... has a damn good point!

Been 4 years and still looks great. And i dont worry about it getting scratched or anything because its an easy fix when its all black

Clean. Where did you get the tube subframe?
Fab shop out of Pennsylvania ran a small batch of them. Very nice quality, Docol R8 construction. God awful wait times and customer service though. It paired with the crossmember tightened up the front end a significantly noticeable amount, and I haven't even driven the car yet.

That's weird, I'm not seeing any issues on my end? Everything seems normal.. Sorry to hear that LOL

Clean As F***!!

Slow progress. Just a little seam sealing, and she's ready for paint!
