Lol the dumbest thing I have ever posted, that being said, Any ideas from anyone about how I should wash the firewall and everything else whiel the engine and trans are out.

The catch, its on jack stands and the driveway is a steep hill. :D

I am open to suggestions.

I use purple power from Advanced Auto, I buy the gallon size coutainer and put it in a spray bottle let it soak in for five minutes but don't let it dry. Then get out the trusty garden hose and commense a good washing. This stuff is great it will dissolve grease, oil, road grime and if let stand for too long the paint to.

I just used a steam pressure washer... But thats probably not the smartest idea but it did get the job done quite well!!! Depending on how much grime and grease that needs to be removed there are a variety of spray on and rinse off options like the one posted above, somewhere I read concentrated simple green max or something like that for another one.

OK if your tranny and engine are out find a bolt as close to the thickness of your driveaxle as you can and long enough to go through your rotor and spindle setup. Use the bolt and some washers to get it hand tight this will allow you to put your brakes and tires back on and move it around at low speeds( like you pushing it). After that lots of engine degreaser, eletcronic cleaner and brake parts clean for senstive areas and go it with lots of rags and a couple tooth brushes. Even on a flat space this isnt a very fun job where old clothes that will be extremely dirty possibly ruined. Good luck

Just spray in a few 2 or 3 cans of engine degreaser, let it sit for 10 minutes, and spray it off with the hose. Or pressure wash it as mentioned above.

Go to the dollar store and buy a cleaner called "Awesome". That stuff is amazing, works great for degreasing and all types of cleaing plus its only a dollar. When I go to the dollar store I just usually buy the whole case, I use it fir everything. Give it a try!

I'm a big fan of CD-2. It works very well and even better on the motor and tranny. You can usually find it at Advance Auto Parts. It's roughly $9.

Two of my buddies did this to repaint their engine bays black like the drivetrain was out. One completely pulled e verything out, while the other just cleaned everything with purple power and wrpped his wiring harness in trash bags and spayed it all down. Came out REALLY good after they prayed it all black.

If you got a camera you should take some before and after pics and let us know what you used.

in the garage huh? well, does anybody have anything wrong with good ol' mineral spirits on a rag? I use it at work, (we work with silica) and it takes everything out. Just watch it on your paint job. You already know how to clean painted areas. As far as tooth brushes and details, it really depends on how clean you want it, if you use polishing/buffing tools, if you want it washed off of all the crud. that's just my $0.02

Ok I washed it today I had no problems. However it was so dirty (greasy) that it still doesn't look super clean. I'll go and buy more engine degreaser and wash it again next week. By the way, the hood gave me the worst trouble, took me like 30 minutes to clean it and it just looks average :(.

now that people have brought up the CAS thing I think that's how mine went out. Also I believe I did the same thing to my alternator. So I can attest to the fact that it can damage CAS and Alternator fairly easily.

I see this thread is almost old as dirt, but I figured I'd search and bring a old back to life instead of starting another.

I once before took a bottle of simple green and just douched the shit out of the engine with it and then sprayed it off with a hose...now apparently reading what's happened to people I got lucky because it started and everything was good and it got really clean. After hearing this I'm a little hesitant, what's the stuff you should not aim for with the hose and simple green or does it matter?

I got a GS-R about a year ago and then moved to socal, sold the GS-R and just got my eclipse down here and it's been sitting that whole time and it's nasty looking, any suggestions?

I bought some of that gunk gel degreaser from auto zone because my engine is a tad on the dirty side. I want to clean out my actual engine bay now that everything is out of the car. Is it going to hurt my electronics if I spray this stuff in there and then hose it away? I'm not going to plug in a battery for a while so it will have plenty of time to dry out good. I'm not going to just spray it on my harnesses and stuff but I'm sure they will get some overspray and water on them. Also can I use that on the transmission and transfer case as long as I plug it so none gets inside?

You'll be fine. Me and my buddy cleaned out his 240 with engine degreaser and pressure hose. With his battery still connected.

haha nice. I figured it would be ok as long as I let stuff dry.... I think I'm going take the battery off though LOL

I have washed my engine several times with out a problem. Just watch out for the CAS, coil and the electronics connectors and you should be fine.

Dried the engine bay in the sun and with a hair dryer. After washing the engine bay and motor with gunk engine degreaser and simple green. Its clean but now after startup a lot of smoke from the muffler. Rise and fall in idle rpms.
