emissions with dsmlink

so my buddy is trying to pass emissions, and is having a hard time. he failed for his egr and o2. he does have dsmlink, is there a way to bypass these with dsmlink so he won't throw any codes?

I thought you could force readiness? and turn off the cels?

Well, congrats on the DSM, but if problems like this are going to make you hate it: go ahead and sell it real quick! Par for the course, my friend.

Check to make sure that no wires have pulled out of your coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing. Had this happen once and it did this exact thing. Aside from that, it could possibly be the ISC, but it never hurts to do a boost leak test either.

Anyway...DSMLink is extremely easy to use. I'll assume you have a laptop and have the latest version of the program downloaded and installed. I'll also assume that you have the required DSMLink OBD2 adapter cable to connect the laptop to your OBD2 port.

Plug everything in. Turn the key to the ON position (don't have to start the car). Start the program. Hit the connect button...and make sure the status says: "connected". If it won't connect, go to the "Configure Connection" button and make sure it's looking on the correct COM port to interface with the cable. Once it's connected, go to the "ECU Config" button and then select the "DTCs" tab. The current DTCs will be listed by number and description and there are buttons to refresh the checks and to clear the codes...even check boxes for certain codes you would want the ECU to ignore (when you're not running w/ a cat, no EGR, etc.).

It may be a good idea to drop an email to Tom or Dave at ECMTuning to get your forum access reinstated. They will want the serial number on the DSMLink chip in your ECU, most likely, so have that ready when you email them: [email protected]

You can turn off CEL's (use the DTC tab), but you can't force the system to register a "COMPLETE" state for emissions OBDII readiness check. These are two different things.

If the car is a 96 your rediness moniters do not have to be set.

'96 was the first year they did OBDII testing and '95's have visual only (even though they do have OBDII ports).

I wasn't saying the 96s require only a sniff and visual. I know anything 95 and before does. I'm saying 96 eclipses and talons have documented problems with rediness moniters so the inspection computers do not check to see if they are ready or not. They only check for dtcs. Sorry for any confusion.

That was the problem that I had years ago when I was trying to use Link . The '95 ECU never showed "complete" on the readiness tests. and '96-'99 need that to pass inspection in NJ. I ended up getting "ECU+" from MachV.com I think that it was trying to compete with with Link back then.

Same us true for the 98 and 99 gst-gsx. I smoged my gst recently with a bad mdp sensor. Just cleared the codes with my scanner before it went in and I was goid to go. At least in Cali
