Electrical Problem Need Help

So I got my engine in and went to start it but nothing, then I looked and it looked like where the starter was was smoking. Is there just supposed to be the one wire with the boot on it connected to starter and the other piece that clips in??? I have another black wire down there with a yellow stripe that looks like the one on the negative terminal. I had that connect to the other post which I don't think it goes there, so I took it off but where does that go because it is still smoking when I jump it. Oh yeah does it matter I am trying to jump it with my trailblazer??? PLEASE HELP
