I need to know whether I should get a wideband or just stick with the EGT i have. I never installed my EGT so that's why I want to find out sooner rather than later.

i know they pretty much do the same thing, but should I spend the extra $70 to get a wideband or just use my EGT.

I was planning on getting some injectors, a fuel pump, and SAFC.

Get a wideband its for a specific job, egt never saw one on a dsm yet, you cant tune with the egt its a measurement of engine temps.

You can use an EGT to tune your car, but it takes a little more know-how than the WBo2.

Small aircraft use EGT sensors so that the pilot can add/pull fuel to correct for altitude.

yea an EGT is good to make sure the engine is running "well" but there is a large window where you can run lean or rich before it shows up on an EGT gauge

i love the classifieds here, always good deals and havnt had a problem with any sellers so far. good luck in your search

Would it be pointless to run both wideband and EGT? I have an AEM wideband but was thinking of also getting an EGT gauge after reading another thread untill I saw this thread. :hmm:

OK thank you. Would a volt gauge be a better option? I have five gauge spots. Have a boost and wideband in vents and three spots above stereo. I was planning on a mechanical oil pressure and a water temp. What would one put in the last hole?

When you learn how to interpret what they tell you, together they provide a clearer picture of whats going on.

I have a wideband, factory narrowband, pre-turbo egt, post turbo egt, and drive pressure to monitor the hotside.

Oil pressure from the head, oil filter housing or turbo feed and voltage at your pump or battery are also handy.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the oil pressure, temp, and volts for above the CD player. In the future I like the sound of egt pre and post Turbo. I might have to get an a pillar in the near future.

I use both myself. Ive got the EGT gauge because Ive got a stock bottom end and a TDO5h 18g turbo on 93 pump, which requires lower timing advance up top to avoid knock, and while running lean causes high EGTs, low timing advance causes higher EGTs on WOT pulls as well. Is it absolutely necessary? Probably not, but at over 20PSI, 11:1 AFRs and 17- 18 degrees of timing up top, Im seeing 1500- 1550F temps at 7.5k RPM, which is kinda pushing it on cast pistons, especially when the pistons would seriously begin to melt at just 1200F if the temps were sustained, rather than intermittent on a pull. I use the Innovate LC1 wideband, which I thouroughly recommend, it is accurate, and the output can be scaled and easily hooked to a logger.

Great info guys thanks again. A friend just gave me an oil pressure and volt gauge today so I just have to buy a water temp guage. But now I'm thinking that I might do an EGT in the real near future and scrap the volt. I should mention to that I drive diesel trucks and like to know whats going on durring hard pulls. But for for the fact I saved some money with the two free ones and that an EGT is not one of the cheapest gauges one can buy I think I'm going to put that money saved towards the tune after my new intercooler is installed. Should be here tomorrow!:hellyeah:
