Ok so I have a 95 gst 6bolt bottom 7bolt head. Right now mods include a 16g Wally pump, afpr, and front mount piping on the way. I bought a EPROM with a chip set up for 16psi on this setup until I get my injectors and a few other things then I'm going to send the chip for a retune. But my question is at this point would you all recommend a logger or wb? I can only afford one right now and the other in a few weeks or so. So far I'm thinking logger because I have to make sure my base timing is set 5* by the cas and I've read you can only do this with a logger and timing light and I can't really put my ecu in until this is set up right. So which one do you all think first and any recommendations on what of each one to get and where. I was thinking of the aem eugo or how ever you spell it but I've heard mixed reviews on it. if there is a way to set the timing with a obd2 scanner thing I could borrow one but I don't know if they show timing or not. Thanks for any input and sorry for the long hard to read post I'm on my iPhone right now.

Don't get a logger. You have a 2g with an EPROM. Save up for ECMLink, there is a Lite version for half the price as well and it can be upgraded to full at some other time. After Link, get a wideband especally since a wideband won't do you any good until you can tune.

You do not need a logger to set your timing. If you have a 1g CAS, ground the timing pin, hook the light up and point it at the crank pulley. It'll flash and show you what you are running. Just make sure the timing pin is grounded!

Ok this seems the best route, but I read only the 1g's have the ground port because my 2g is OBDII. But I'll search around some more and see if I can find the right way to do it. The main reason I don't want a logger is because I plan on trying to get ecmlink in the next couple months and it will be pretty much useless at that point. Thanks for the input.

Just save for it you can always upgrade to the full version later, then your all set, i used a logger for a while but it was dirt cheap.

Like I said the only reason I am even considering a logger is for the timing but I found a post that said the 95-96 had the ground port on the firewall and it's a little brown plug with a cap on it so I'm gonna look and see if it's there. Any one care to give me a quick run down of how to do it with the timing light if that is the ground port and I ground it I just really want to get this set and my EPROM in. And I think I'm going to not worry about the injectors and other things I want until I get dsm/ECM link seems like the best bang for buck by far. Only thing I'm worried about is I don't know really anything about tuning so I'm going to have to do a lot of reading.

Buy a chip burner for 85 bucks, a couple chips, and get your ECU socketed. If you don't have a laptop, buy a cheapo laptop or netbook and a logging cable. It's easy to tune with the free TunerPro program.

A wideband doesn't do you much good until you have something to tune with. What good is knowing the AFR if you can't change it anyways?

My ecu is socketed and I was going to get the stuff to burn chips but I didn't know if that would be more difficult than learning to tune on dsmlink. I know it's faster on dsmlink but I won't be changing my setup every week and the chips are cheaper. I just don't want to buy the stuff to burn chips then decide I would be better off with dsmlink and be stuck with a chip burner I couldnt use. And I was thinking a wb because I can give the dude I bought my ecu and chip from the details and ^he should be able to get a decent tune until I can get dsmlink. Like I said before I know nothing about tuning and need to do alot more reading before I think I'm ready to start messing with my tune and break something LOL.

With link its easy to get started nothing really to break your car with, just a basic understanding, of some things, lots of support to help you when you do decide to get it.

Ok I think I figured out how to set my timing without a logger so I'm just going to get that out of the way, and save up for link I guess everyone starts out not knowing anything about tuning at some point. Thanks for the help and input everyone I might go ahead and get a cheap logger cable if I can find one just to keep an eye on everything so if anyone knows of a decent one to use with my laptop that's not too expensive please give me a link LOL. I'm gonna go ahead and do the rewire to my pump and set my afpr up amd just wait for the injectors till after link.

You can get a vag-com logging cable from ebay for a whopping 8 bucks, and buy evoscan for $25. The logging on the 95 ecus is pretty sucky (slow), but it'll do the job; Link is the only thing for fast logging as they wrote their own logging code.

Ok thanks for the info I've heard it was pretty slow on the 95-96 ecus but better than nothing until I get link I guess.

It's not like you have to log that much to get it tuned.

I don't get how people act like they can tune so much easier and better just because they spent the money on link. Whatever you tune with, it's basically the same -- just some ways are more expensive than others, and some have features that many people don't actually need. Sure V3 looks awesome, but it's not going to give you more power or make you a good tuner if you're not.

Can you recommend a good chip burner and a place to get chips?
