EGR Valve

Couple questions. First, ive heard a rumor that if i have a bad EGR Valve it can cause the car to sort of hiccup a lot. But if i cut the tube on the EGR and seal it back that it will complete disable the valve and not cause any harm to my car, nor cause it to slow down in anyway. True or False?

Also, can anyone tell me any notorious problems a 95 RS has. or DSM in general. This is my 3rd DSM, but 1st 95 RS. Kind of a rookie builder as well, and im using this as a project car if i can fix this damn hiccup problem.

I'm not completely sure if a bad one will cause hiccup. I'm running a 95 RS as well. Since no emissions on 95/older I deleted my EGR.

how do you know your egr is bad?

If your egr is bad it could be stuck open. This will cause a huge vacuum leak, casuing slight misfires or "hiccups". You can tell if your egr valve is bad by getting a vacuum tool and applying vacuum to the egr valve and watching if the diafram operation open or not. Also if you disconnect the egr valve for too long carbon can build up on it and cause it to malfuction if you ever reconnect it. What I would suggest you do is if you think your egr valve is bad or you want to get rid of it, get a set of egr block off plates. I think ci motorsports sells them. Hope this helped and I'm sorry for what I spelled wrong. Also I know it says I have a bad reputation but that was for something stupit so if you could please recommend rep points.

Good thing is not harm will be done! More like good! cleaner running engine!

Be awared of geTting a CEL. The delete will tell the ECU that there is something wrong with your engine.

Mine threw a CEL right away. It's not the same on all cars, some do and some don't.

The original poster has a 2g so while your 1g didn't throw a code, you have to remember he is running OBDII.

And my car has a production date of 1994 so it's hardly a 2g.

Regardless, the OP has OBDII as do I, and removing the EGR threw a code in my car.
