egr valve issues or something else?

I have a 95 non-turbo talon and its having a serious issue with surging right around 3k in any gear. Once it gets passed that and to 4k or higher it seems fine. I had this same problem when i first got the car and took it to a shop to find out that there was an issue with the egr valve. Didnt cost me much and took a day to get it back. After that it worked perfectly until now. He never really told me what exactly was wrong with it just that it needed a part replaced. Could this be a reoccuring problem??? Or something else.

I had to replace mine to. It was going bad after being 10 years old. But it shouldn't be going bad again that soon. How long ago did you have it replaced?

Well the whole thing wasnt replaced it was "just a part of it" according to the mechanic. I wasnt into doing my own work back then so i didnt ask exactly what that part was. It was about a 8 months ago.

It shouldn't have gone that bad that quickly, and I'm not an ase certified mechanic but I think the whole thing should have been replaced, unless it was just a gasket. Check for vacuum leaks. Also it could be your fuel pump. Check for leaks first and let me know what you come up with.
