Well you know, a loss of 2 feet of vac hose is equal to a loss of 1-2mpg...umm wait, no.

I was getting 20 mpg on the freeway before i removed it, once i removed it my mileage immediately went down to 17 or less, not worth it IMO.

Bad mod and just gives you phantom knock.

WILL YOU TREE HUGGING EGR HIPPIES PLEASE SHUT UP.

I dont give a damn about your "dont remove the EGR" opions anymore.

I did it and here is the pic. damn

It ok man, we all understand you love shelling out money for new motors, remember, the EGR kills the life of your motor as well. Dont you just it when the hot compression chamber pre-ignites and melts your piston rings when you least expect it?

As soon as that happens i'll be sure to call Toretto and get the mad scientists to fix it for me.

The block off and removal is only good to help eliminate boost leaks.

The educated person will do a boost leak test and replace the parts that leak.

The only other reason I can see for removal is weight reduction or to avoid pay for replacement parts.

I am not a tree hugger. I don't care if you block off your egr. I just like it when things work they way they are supposed to.

Happy Holidays,
Jeff Jeske

I am confussed as too thr pros and cons of the removal. I just recently did a boost leak test and i have no vacuum lines on the EGR since i did a engine swap complete start to finish in less than 3 hours and didnt feel like finding out where they went and came from. Anyways it leaks while no lines are on there. I would put all the emisions sh*t back if i had time to run all the lines but what are the pros and cons of taking it off? and how would you test it to see if its even good or not? Sounds like you get worse gas milage with it off......but i could be missunderstanding that. lets work up a legit list of pros and cons

EGR is disabled at wide open throttle so removing it doesn't help performance at all.

Removing it may help keep your intake track cleaner but it isn't gonna make much of a difference either way.

It does help mileage but I wouldn't expect more than 1-2mpg if that. Claiming more is unreasonable.

As posted above having EGR helps rid the world of some nasty emissions but does it really matter since most of us are catless anyway?

When you go to sell or trade in your car the emissions equipment must be operational or you have to document its disfunction on the title.

Basically its a 6 in 1 half dozen in the other kinda thing.

Bottom line is keeping it does more good than bad.
Removing a fuctioning EGR does more bad than good.

wow thanks for all that. and since this is setteled now.
lets get back on topic. look at the pic..ohhh....ahhh. thats it.

i though it saved on gas, my erg is bad and i was thinking of blocking it off

Someones been searching! Nothing like reviving a 8 year old thread.

On to the point, the mileage difference is negligible and not worth worrying about IMO. Mines blocked and didn't notice much of a change at all, your right foot makes a much bigger difference than blocking the egr will.

The gas mileage is hardly noticable in my experience with it. For those that say it will ruin an engine they most likely had other issues that contributed to the ruined engine. The way I drive my Talon isn't compatable with good gas mileage. If I wanted good gas mileage I'd get a Honduh. But all in all I get 18mpg for in city and for long highway cruises I get about 25mpg. On average with my big 3.5 V6 '99 300m.

It will help to keep your intake and throttle cleaner by not recycling the exhaust back into the combustion cycle and reduce intake temperatures some.
