Ok, so I bought a Talon AWD Turbo car yesterday, and it could use some lovin for sure. I'm still new to the DSM world though, so I have a quick question.

This car's been around like the village bike, the guy I bought it from patched it back together enough to make it run, but he didn't dump any great amount of money into it. One of the thing's is the BOV is removed and blocked off, along with the recirc.

Is there any reason why I can't run without the BOV? If it's effectively blocked, along with the recirc, there will be no leaks right? I am aware of reversion, and the reason BOV's exist, but giagantic Semi Diesels don't use them, so I don't feel like it's that big of a danger. All I want to know is if it will cause any driveability issues so I can either focus here, or move on to the next thing.

Although it's HIGHLY SUGGESTED AGAINST, you can run a turbo car with no BOV. I'd recommend that if you absolutely must... ABSOLUTELY..... do not boost the car over 8 psi, and try not to repeatedly back off the throttle. Even with the 14b the amount of pressure will bend the throttle plate. The reason diesel engines don't have BOV's is because they don't have throttle plates. They are just big air pumps, they idle making boost. You can run your car without a BOV, but I'd say you have a 90% chance of ruining the throttle body or hurting the motor or turbo. I'm not saying to run your car with no BOV. Infact, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT RUN THE CAR TILL YOU HAVE ONE. Just my 2 cents though.
 
I understand, I'm just chasing driveability at the moment, so I just want it to run soundly, no idle surge, no ten minute crank, etc. I'm not driving the car other than up and down the street a little.
 
That's pretty much what I figured, I've already written the turbo and manifold off anyway, SBR and 16g should be here early next week ;) I just want to get to the bottom of it's various issues before I get into any modifications.
 
Why dont you just buy a stock 1G or 2G BOV? You could probally get a used one for like $20. Then you dont have to worry about hurting your motor.
 
Get a knockoff Greddy or a 1g and just slap it back on before you do infact do some damage.

I am, and I'm not driving the car, just messing with it at the moment. It's idle surging terribly and has quite a few other issues. I just want to know if not have the BOV will hurt driveability (i.e idle quality, ability to pull under load, etc.) in the meantime. Basically there's alot to do, so if there's no reason not to, other than the reversion, then I'll carry on with my vacuum hose replacement, boost leak checking, wiring, etc until it get's here.

BTW, I'm not sure how different this is, but I ran a centrifugal blower on my Mustang for year's without a BOV, and SVO mustangs never had BOV's, or Thunderbird Turbo Coupes. I don't think reversion is as big a deal as it's made out to be, but it's easy and cheap enough to put one on, so when I get one, I'll put it on LOL.

Basically, i mess with vacuum line for an hour or so, check wiring, etc, then fire it up, and cruise down the road to the corner, turn around and come back. I never get over 2500 or 30 mph.
