Allright guys here is the deal. I sold my stroker kit, as I just do not feel like putting a lot more money into the car than what is allready into it. I want to simply see how much power I can make with my stock bottomend. *By power I mean useable street power, not dyno queen power....

Here is a simple mod list, check my profile for more detail: 1990 GSX Eclipse 136K miles

Stock 6-bolt block with smoothed and polished piston tops, no casting marks
BS eliminated
ARP head studs
Mitsu metal HG
Fully ported head with big valves
Matched stock intake
SBR cast manifold, ported
PTE GT30R ball bearing turbo, bolt on w/ Tial 38mm gate and custom downpipe, 3" exhaust no cat
DSMLINKv2
FIC 1000cc injectors, rewired Supra Pump, Aeromotive AFPR, SS lines
E-01 boost controller
PLX m300 wideband
Big FMIC
MAFT

NOW FOR THE QUESTION OF THE DAY......

Can I get away with running my new ZEX Direct port kit on this setup???? I was thinking a 75-100 shot.

ALSO, can I get away with STOCK cams, or should I get a set of larger ones??? FP2s perhaps...

Let me know guys, I want this thing to haul ass, but not be on the verge of destruction, and Tuning is NOT an issue, I have that down. :thumb:

Definatly get rid of the stock cams. They will just hold you back. And if you put all those mods on your car I would rule out the nitrous system. You will be pushing the limits of the stock internals alone with the GT30 turbo. With some good tuning you won't be able to max out that turbo. Your internals will fly apart before you reach it's full potential. I would maybe downgrade a bit and save the money you would have spent on it. A GT30 isn't exactly your run of the mill bolt-on turbo. You are getting into some pretty serious numbers and serious dyno time to ensure everything stays together.

It would appear from your parts list that you have spent a fair amount of money on components. You should have kept the stroker kit, and sold the GT-30, and replaced it with a 50 trim or a EVO 16g.

You could bolt all of your stuff on your 136K motor, and you might get a few years out of it. With some good luck, great tuning, and discretion when setting boost levels. I would hate to see you float a valve because of a weak spring, only to have it smack a piston, then see all the trash exit through your GT-30. Then again you may only get a few feet out of it.

The most educated thought I have about this thread is " the title does not match the contents of the thread".

Please keep in mind that you are asking people to predict how long your motor will last after you do all of your mods, based solely on the amount of miles on your current engine.

The thread title is not wrong for the thread....

I have only put just over 2700 miles on the car in over 2 years, to let you know how much I drive it.

I did not want to put the stroker motor in the car, because I want to see what the stock bottom end will do with the mods I allready have, in addition, I just picked up a set of HKS 264/272 cams.

I want a USEABLE powerband, not a high revving setup.

ALSO, I have a fully built valve train. I have taken the motor over 8K many times with the previous setup, w/o valve float. I have the Crower springs/retainers in the head allready.

I am honestly mainly concerned with the ZEX kit, and whether or not I should even bother putting it on the car. IF you all were to say NO WAY in hell can the bottomend take a 75 shot, then that is fine.

I want opinions on whether or not you think it can handle it. Assume it will be tuned near perfect, assume the compression of the motor is good, and nothing is wrong with the bottomend. Basically can the stock pistons/rings hold up to 24 psi with a 75 shot on race fuel??

I appreciate you all taking the time to give me some input. :thumb:

It will take it as long as you tune your car to about 400hp w/o the ZEX kit. Because if you are pushing 450 and add a 75 shot to it. Things are going to come apart. If it was me there is no doubt in my mind I would NOT use it. Just to be safe. Like said before...better than to tune the car with a lot of hp than to tune it down and give it a 75 shot and have everything go up in smoke 1000 miles after it's all done.

Excellent suggestion, I am leaning that direction. If I decide to keep the car, then maybe next spring I will put a built bottomend in it, and the ZEX kit. Thanks.

I thought of the same thing on my own car but instead converted the Zex kit to an intercooler sprayer. I let the brain spray the intercooler at about 85% throttle instead of injecting the motor. One less thing I have to worry about like when to spray the front mount while Im driving.

Good idea, but a waste of money for a $700 direct port kit I think. I will just hold onto it, and if I decide to keep the car, I'll build the bottomend and throw a 100 shot to it. :thumb:

Heres a logical thought. sell the zex kit and get pistons (ross, wisco, etc) and rods (eagle,crowler,etc..) that way it will take the abuse of that turbo.

Your really just asking for problems if you don't build everything all at once to handle what you need.

Thats like me buying a GT35R and trying to run 10psi on stock fuel system. Will it work, maybe, but isn't it a bit stupid not to go all out once so you can get all you can for what you spent??

Do what you want, but you really need to swap out the pistons (at best) if you want to have "fun" with that turbo.

That stroker would have helped with the lag though, but that zex kit could help out there, if the engine is built right.

You don't see people running a weak part with all other parts stronger, because that part will break and damage your other stronger parts.

It's common since

Derek :dsm:

I hear you Derek, but if I wanted a "built bottomend" I could have one. I want to use the stock bottomend because I just want to drive the car. IF it blows, I'll fix it and put a fully built bottomend in there with the direct port kit. The point of this thread is to see what people actually have done on their cars with stock bottomends.

Funny thing is, I know more people that have blown up or had problems with their "built" bottomends than people with stock bottomends. There is all this talk about the limits of the stock bottomend, but really how many people have killed one with correct tuning and supporting mods??? I would bet there are not that many, unless it was at an extreme power level 500+ to the wheels.

Not trying to argue with any of you, but I would really like to know how far this stock bottomend will go with out dying. Guess I will just have to test it out. And I do not think this turbo is TOO much for the stock bottomend. I am going to run it as hard as tuning and pump gas will allow me to.

If I lose a cylinder, then I'll build the block. The car is almost back together and I will let you all know how she runs.

I say go for it. That way people will know if the stock bottom end can handle more then 400 horsepower. You say you'll rebuild if it blows so what are you worried about. I'd also like to know how much the stock bottom end can handle.

Allright. I guess a nice 50 shot won't hurt too bad will it :sneaky:. I need to line up a purge kit, bottleopener and guages. If the kit doesn't sell, I'll do it. :thumb:

The stock bottom end? Roughly about 450hp, give or take. Have a friend pushing 418hp to the wheels and thats as far as he dares to go. Good luck with whatever way you go with Mack.

Yeah, I am so close to having it running, I don't feel the urge to do all the nitrous install right now. I should have it done by Sunday if everything is on schedule.

its all about your tunning. i have a friend making over 600hp on a stock bottom end and a gt35R. amazing car
