Any one know more detail about the Knock Sensitivity and Knock Multiplier/Gain tables in ECUFlash. I've found some decent info from Merlins Guide for the EVO's as they are similar, but inherently more complex so some/most of the knock tables are not the same. Specifically they seem to have knock sensitivity based on RPM while the 2g DSM only has "Knock below load sensitivity" and "Knock above load sensitivity" and then Knock Multiplier/Gain has Multiplier/Triple Gain/Single Gain.
The knock control above load is fairly simple and straight forward. just load vs RPM. But with the DSM, we seem to lose the rpm based variances for knock control, its all or nothing throughout the range?
So what do those reference exactly? If I am trying to tune out false knock/phantom knock due to a built engine with no balance shafts and stiff motor mounts, which way should I adjust. (Outside of the knock control above load of course)
Stock seems to be Knock Above/Knock below Sensitivity 16/32 while the stock multiplier/gain is 19/10/3.
Which table makes more of an impact? Adjusting the values, would increasing the numbers decrease sensitivity or increase it? ex. 16/32 to 18/34 would this decrease or increase the sensitivity? And if the multiplier/gain moves to 21/12/5 is that decreasing sensitivity or increasing it?
I have read that the single gain and triple gain should remain a 3x difference but not sure about the Multiplier itself.. and also which way to adjust, up or down ?
I've been scouring message boards for years and still can't really find a conclusive answer, mostly because the DSM's weren't/aren't as popular to tune with ECUflash, most seem to have gone with ECULink, and guessing it uses a different table/system to monitor knock than the stock ecu's?
For reference
Fully built bottom end. Forged Manley Crank, Rods and Pistons, and ARP hardware holding it all together. Top End has upgraded lifters, and new standard sized valves, and ARP head studs but stock cams.
I am also using incremental 50/50 Meth Injection once I hit 8psi (starts) up to the max of (full spray) 26 psi(Boost topping off between 26-28) with a 20g. I've been able to hit over 2100+ mafhz/46 lb/min/nearly 300 load during logging. Around some where in the 420 + whp, all things being equal......When I manage to avoid knock! Not too bad for a 4 banger daily driver
Most of the knock I log is due to sudden throttle change, and at low boost levels (below 12 psi). Though once knock seems to start it keeps going unless you let off the throttle. :/ I have changed my TPS Enrichment a bit and seems to have helped the sudden throttle change/spool knock. Now I'm trying to get the full throttle/full range tuning under raps once and for all.
But I just am tired of chasing a ghost, and hate not having a full understanding of what the KNOCK settings above do, since they are so crucial to making reliable power while not exploding the engine
Thanks!
