Ok well i got some 272 HKS Cams. I have some mods in already but i really wanted to know befor i put them in should i upgrade the ECU? I really dont have the money at the moment to upgrade the ECU. If these stage 3 cams dont work can i go the 264/272 or something smaller without upgrading the ecu for right now? Mods i have on my car is
Downpipe, 3 inch Cat back, HKS BOV, Greddy FMIC, Cold Air, boost controller. I have a 255 Fuel pump on the way.
 
since your putting in cams of that nature.. Did you bother upgrading your valve train?.. I know a lot of DSM'ers say that the stock valve train is good for 11's, or 10's... But i'd rather make sure everything was done right in my head.. Just my own .02.. Other then that i would recommend getting an ecu.. Once you have your cams your gonna want to fool with your timing.. (my .02 is that if your screwing with things like timing you'd rather have your ecu read right).. Id say atleast get a S-AFC, or something to that effect to help your a/f curves.. But even then I don't know if thats capable of adjusting everything you need to screw with you cams.... Hopefully someone with your type of setup will chime in here.. But i'd say start saving.. DSMlink is going to be really handy for you once you start doing internals..
 
How many miles on your stock valvetrain? If it were me, I'd at least replace your springs and retainers. I just got some FP2 cams and replaced my valvetrain. But people do say that they run the HKS 272's on a stock valvetrain with no problems. Also, ECU upgrade can be had later. But I hope you have an AFPR for that 255 of yours cause you're gonna need it. Not to mention some kind of fuel control.
