1G ECU repair/replacement??

My beloved 1991 Talon AWD alternately runs super rich (belches black smoke) and cuts out. Fuel consumption worse than an M-1 tank. Basically it doesn't run. No check-engine light though. Naturally suspect ECU. Potential major bummer as I'm based in Ireland and there is no technical support for these cars. I got a Mitsu specialist to grab data from the diagnostics and these support my suspicion. Does anyone know where I can get my ECU repaired or replaced by mail? maybe even upgraded to something more powerful...

dsmchips.com can upgrade an eprom ecu and repair any damage caused by leaking capacitors as well as replace the caps. Jeff O did mine and it works flawlessly.

Have you tried replacing the O2 sensor. As they get older they will make the car run exactly as you are describing. I am not a computer whiz, but I dont see how a leaky cap will change your fuel maps in the ecu. They will be the same no matter what so that wouldn't make you run rich. I have a feeling it is an O2 sesor. My FWD car would usually spin through first and part of second. After sometime it wouldn't do it anymore and would puke black smoke, and burn tons of gas. I replaced the O2 and it run like a champ again. Food for thought.

I wouldn't target the ECU yet.

O2 sensor is a good idea. Checking for boost leaks is also a good idea.
