hey everyone. i recently got my car delivered and tried to start it and it did start for a few seconds and died , i tried to start it again but it wouldn't . so i checked for fuel (good) spark (no good) then i thought maybe ecu well , checked it and it was fried . now my problem is that i don know why is toasted . and i don't want to buy another one until i fix the problem (i just don't want to fry another one). any ideas will be greatly apreciated.

How do you know the ECU is fried if you are getting good fuel? If you take it apart you can check the caps and all that stuff.

... did the caps leak? Did something catch on fire? If the caps leak, send it out and have them fixed. If something caught on fire, take a picture, someone can identify what sector it is and have some idea of the pieces that might be going bad.

Switch on ignition and check all cables to the ecu, if they have 12V where they should not. That would be my starting point.

But if you have done a fuel pump rewire, start there and check if it was done wrong and fried the ecu.

here are some pics front and back.

no fire by the way

Damn man. No fire? No unusual wiring? I would say just get another ECU. That would could just been bad. Was the Case burned or anything? Check anything around the ECU to make sure there was no heat source that could have melted the board.

That looks beyond repair to me. You'll have a hard time finding anyone that'll be willing to try to repair that.

Unfortunately, that's what happens when the caps are left leaking and not replaced. Since your ecu is a 90, you'll need to find another 90 ecu or do the 90 to 91/94 conversion.

I would send a picture of it into the guys at Ecmlink.com (former dsmlink) and ask if they would attempt it. They are really really good at repairing ECMs but are pretty busy lately and don't repair unless your buying something from them. Worth a shot, the repair usually costs less than buying a new one.

now. how do you do that conversion?, what do you need? and is it expensive? because i'm planning to do the cyclone engine conversion with in a couple of months.

a guy I know had a 93 and that thing caught on fire about 2 weeks ,put it this way no parts any good only the rims . his ecu was neglected and now one more awd toasted

Worst case scenario their is a company on ebay that fixes ecm's for $200.00 with a 100.00 core but they do good work with a 12 month warranty I have 1 in my talon and have had no problems with it they even a chart to tell you which ecu to use

Gold box right side of the center concil..Two bolts hold it to the vertical brace It has about 9 wires running out of it. All G1 2.0s have the same relay the 1.8s are different.

I am sure I researched this a while back ,that the Isc motor shorts out causing the ecu to burn up . after I bought a fried ecu from a guy on ebay that was suppose to be good . as for repairing your ecu don,t waste your time because there is a good chance the damage went alot further . I repaired the one I bought and it was burn,t alot worst than yours ,but it won,t work with dsmlink only the chip that came in it ,and it still didn,t work proper .
