I was wondering if I have to get the same MD number for a new computer or if I can get a different one and what the consequences would be if its not the same MD number but still for the car model and such

I believe you can use a 97 to 99 turbo ECU # 6675 or a 95 to 96 turbo ECU don't know the #.If you need the # I can pull one and get back to you.But if you use the early one I beleive you have to change the firing order on the coil from 4123 to 2341 looking at the coil from the front of the car.Not sure on this last part .Anybody?

In your case any 2g (95-99) turbo ECU will work. If you find a 95 ECU cheap get it, because it will be EPROM and can be upgraded later on to DSMlink, if you plan on modding the car in the future.

Six bolt,

If you have a 91 car then you should look for a 91-94 ECU it will be "plug and play" and fit your wiring harness. A 90 ECU will work but two wires have to be switched on the wiring harness to make the tach signal and something else work right in a 91-94 car. Chesk the VFAQ section for the details on that one.

In '94 all the cars have California style EGR sensors and solenoid so putting a '94 ECU in an earlier car may cause a EGR CEL.

The two wire that are in different places on the connector between 90 and 91+ are 6 and 14. They are for the IPS and MAF reset. It's the '90 cars that have problems with the tach if you put a later ECU in. The 90 ECU will work ok in a 91 car but with all the limitations of the 90 ECU software.

You switch the 1 with the 2 and the 3 with the 4, so the new firing order would be 3214, not 2341.
