Can I use my ECU out of my 1991 GSX, in my 1990 TSI. They are both 5spds.

Not without either modifying the ECU or the 90 car.

It will start and run it if you swap pins 6 and 14 on the connector but as is well described in many threads here the 90 cars have tach problems when you put a 91+ ECU in them.

ok but it runs kinda, it really idols rough, it really lags when i give it gas like it has no response. but boosts like crazy once its over 2000 3000 rpms. if i swap out pins 14 and 6 it should fix that throttle response problem? And the 90 ecu runs good in my 91? im doing this cause i thought i might have a ecu problem.

if u switch the pins it should run fine the 90"s are a pain in the ass but also very fun to play with

91+ cars don't have the same tach issues, that unique to 90 cars but you still have to swap 6 and 14 since the signals swapped positions on the connector between 90 and 91.

ok i try the #6 & #14 swap. but why does the 90 ecu work good in my 91 is that normal ?

Normal, the pins just need to be changed vise versa thats it. Not sure what you mean good or not, but thats the way it should be set up so do that and your good to go nothing esle to it.

the 1990 tsi ecu runs perfect in my 1991 gsx, the only thing i can see wrong is my apexi avcr will not turn off with the 1990 ecu hooked up.

i only did the ecu swap to see if there was a problem with the ecu in the 1990 tsi. i didnt know they had different pinouts. eather way it still works? is that ok?

I just swapped my wires around you have the apexi dont know about that so i dont know why dont you just swap the wires and leave it alone.

ugh i just tried to pull one of the pins out and i cant do it im not sure how? i tried to use a little pick but i cant find the little thing that locks it in and i dont want to snap it?
