Hey there

I pulled my ECU and found a spot labled C14 that has some obvious damage to it. I can't tell if it burned up or if it is damage from leaky caps. I bought the ECU used, and I believe the caps were already replaced b/c they are different colors than the OEM ones. I don't smell that trademark dead fish smell either. I found a post that referenced the C14 spot on the board, but I couldn't quite make out what he was saying.

The car runs fine aside from the fact that the A/C clutch won't kick in (i've checked ALL other switches/relays/sensors along the way, including the AC ECU and they all have power going to them, but the wire to the compressor doesn't which is why i am looking at the ECU) and the car won't idle up when I turn on the A/C.

Can anyone help me figure out what this damage is, whether its repairable, and how critical it is to the functioning of the car? Thanks!

It's repairable. You can get pictures of similar ECUs off our repair page below.

Just look in the "Corrosion examples" section.

If you want to schedule a repair, just start on this page:

Service request page

I think that page explains the process pretty well, but definitely let me know if you have any questions. You're basically just pre-paying the return shipping cost and then sending us your stuff along with a printed copy of the order.

The damage is corrosion due to caps leakage. It's critical that this gets cleaned up and repaired before more serious damage occurs. Every 1G ECU produced before 94 *will* leak and *will* destroy itself if given enough time. So, yeah, it really needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
