such greetings from MX.. I have a couple of questions ...

i was reading about the ECU and others, is that I have reference number MD166255 ECU, according to several American forums says it is not for turbo, but my car is turbo and it works fine (for now the turbo is not working ..! that canceled)
turns smoothly and stays smoothly:

anyone has the same number of ecu in a 1g FWD turbo 91?
If I buy a turbo ecu I have a problem?

someone who sells some compu for 91 turbo FWD?

You may find this link useful. According to it ( it may be one of the links you referred to in your post) your ECU is a A N/A ECU and it would not have the Knock sensor board on it, I am not sure how that would work with a turbo engine and it should look like this

. A turbo one should look like this (the eprom code will be different or there could be no eprom)

There is always a possibility that what's inside that non-turbo case is something different.

If you look at both the boards posted you'll note there is a number on the white connector. That number is the last 4 digits of the other ECU part number, the E2TXXXX number. From it you can tell what ECU the circuit board was for/from by looking it up on my list posted above.

So for example a real MD166255 NA ECU will have a board inside stamped 6572 (line the first picture) which matches the E2T6572. The second picture tells me it's a board from a E2T0878 ECU. Looking that up I find it's a 7/92-5/93 - MD193299 board.

This is very true, I once bought a cheap ecu for a daily driver and once I removed the cover I found I had a nicely socketed eprom with the incorrect outer case on it. So always check the inside.

Where is the car originally from?

Is there a big dsm following where you are?

Not only the outer case could have been swapped, another thing that I have always been very picky about is the correct board configuration . R129 and R130 at the bottom of the board, one switches between CAl and FED, the other between AWD and FWD, I can't remember which is which right now. While the difference between AWD and FWD may be negligible, if you don't have the correct emission setup it could result in an CEL. The same may happen using a 94 ECU with an older FED car, 94 apparently all had the CAL emission setup in spite of the board configuration. I had to retrofit my 94 ECU with a 91-93 EPROM and change the R129/R130 configuration in order to get my 91 GST to run properly.

Steve, is the link I posted pointing to one of your webpages? I did not bother to give the proper credit as it is such a renowed page I thought it would be obvious. I'm doing it now and thank you (or whoever posted it) as I used it in several occasions.

P.S. The meaning of R129/R130 is actually listed in the same link I posted above.

Thanks for the good info serviceguy. I did not know that one.
