    I just bought ECMLink from someone on line, it came with an eepromed ECU with the red ECMLink chip in it and a cable. The cable doesn't look like the one that you can buy on the website but I'm told that it's the old model. Can anyone verify it for me? The cable has a blue end on it where it plugs into the OBD and the other end has the USB with transparent area that shows blinking lights when it's trying to connect. It doesn't look like the black one my buddy has.

    Beyond that, I was able to connect my laptop to my buddies 1G with his cable and his ECU. We tried using my cable and my ECU in his car but it kept telling us it couldn't connect. You can see that its trying to connect through COM3, it appears that the COM Port is set up correctly since it worked with is cable before, but it was COM4 for his cable. Another friend told me the OBD connector usually goes bad so he had me cut it out and splice it into the ECU harness. I connected pin 1 with pin 1 on the ECU, pin 10 with pin 10 (Even though the ECMLink page says to use Pin 2 on the ECU... mine doesn't have a wire in Pin 2), and sent Pin 12 to ground. I have gone as far as to take the chip out of the computer I got and put it into another eepromed computer and it still won't connect. I won't be home until 1800 MST today, just trying to get some ideas of what I can try. The guy I bought it from said I need to set some port on ECMLink so it will work. When I first launched ECMLink software it was set to the 2g V3 default, I had to select 1G V3... still won't connect.

    That's what I was afraid of. Crazy enough we were able to get this cable to connect to his ECU one time, after that I figured it was a good cable. It never worked again after that though. We thought that we had screwed up his ECU when I couldn't connect to it again with my cable so he pulled his out. We connected through his cable and it took two tries, and it connected.

    Is it possible that my ECU and chip could be bad too? Has anyone ever seen one of these ECMLink chips go bad?

    Can someone confirm that pin 10 on the OBD and pin 10 on the ECU should be connected together?

    No.
    OBD 1= ECU 1
    OBD 10= ECU 2
    OBD12= GND
