i just baught a 92 awd 1gb, a local guy has an epron ecu with link v3 plus the cable and paper work for 450, the only question i have is he states its "its ecm link v3 from my 91 1ga with pop up head lights" so will it work for my 92 1gb, also how should i test it to make sure it works right, if i plug it in, woldnt it have his mad still on it?

Yes, V3 1G Link will work for any 1G as long as you have the Eprom ECU + Chip + Cable + Laptop to interface with it. It doesn't discriminate between Headlights or 1GAs and 1GBs for that matter.

Not a problem. That's what we're here for. Be sure to hook that setup up first and make sure that you can get a laptop to interface with it. Always test used equipment before blindly purchasing.

ok so ill bring my laptop with me, should i download ecm link software first, im sorry m just totally new to this, and shoud i get a bse map so it doesnt hurt my car, im just gona test it and put my non eprom back in

Download and install the software. And what are you referencing in regards to a BSE map?

You should be able to hook up the ECU, plug the cable into your laptop, let it install the drivers. If it doesn't, then they are available on the disk and/or the Ecmtuning.com website. Once it's all done, plug the cable into the OBD port, turn the key to 'On' (doesn't have to be running), open Ecmlink and hit the 'connect' button. It should connect. it not then make sure that you have the correct Model range selected and then try again. If it still won't connect then make sure everything is plugged in nicely, try switching ports on the PC, and give it a whirl.

ok i ment base map becouse i didint want to start the csr on his race tune if its still there, but what your saying is if it connects it should be good, also by obd port did you mean the usb port on the laptop or on the ecu, or the port under the dash, i thought my port was obd1

As long as it connects you'll be fine.

OBD Port - The white port near your fuse box.
USB - The port on the side of your PC.

Here is a great basis for first time use. If anything gets too confusing, you should be able to get a good headstart on resolving it here.

Notice that the very first help link on that page pertains to first time users, specifically. It's straight forward. :p Good luck.

It's... uhm... slightly cheaper than brand new.
