im getting a new car soon, this is a car on my list, i was wondering if you guys can give me a little info on the AWD turbo 4...thanks

Awesome car that's highly respected by anyone who's into the street racing scene. That's all you basically need to know.

OMG!!!L1Ke ph33R Tha Gee Es Ecks!!!

I can give you information on 2G GSX, since I don't have 1G experience as much I won't cover it.

GSX is a respectable car, the people that usually don't view it as a threat are usually people that are with the "american muscle" scene, i.e. Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes.

The GSX is powered by AWD, which helps or eliminates spin off the line, its grab and go giving a good 2 to 3 car length advantage over a FWD/RWD equiv.

The stock specs on a GSX 2G are as follows:
4g63 motor
2.0L Dual Overhead Cam, 16 valve
Garrett T25 Turbo
8.5:1 compression
210HP@6K Manual Trannies Only
214ft-lbs@3000RPMs Manual Trannies
205HP@6K Auto Trannies Only
220ft-lbs@3000RPMs Auto Trannies

The GSX model is about 300 - 400 pounds heavier than a GST equiv. model, this is one of the GSX's weak point. GSX doesn't race as well from rolls.

GSX tends to suffer from a mediocre top-end, this is usually the place you lose when you race someone. With proper upgrades you can improve it.

Choosing between a 2G GSX and a 1G GSX should consider the following:
- 1Gs are cheaper
- 1Gs have more potential on stock components than 2Gs, i.e. turbo/intercooler are bigger
- 2Gs are faster stock because flow characteristics are better, and compression is higher
- 2Gs are generally considered better looking, though this is based purely on one's opinion.
- 2Gs have the crankwalk issue, while 1Gs are less likely to get it.

When buying a GSX it is a must to make sure the vehicle is well taken care of, too many GSXs are beat to hell and not taken care of. This is usually the #1 cause of reliability problems for GSXs. Though there are lemons out there.

I don't think you'd be sorry by picking up a GSX.

I am also going to buy a car soon. Probably this 98 GSX I found. Any advice or things i should be aware of?

That if you modify it and you don't know how to at least change your oil then your going to be in a whole heeeeeep of trouble. Also before askin questions about the mods you should do make sure to check the info we have posted in the vfaq sections.

yeah well, it depends on how old you are. I am 18, with no tickets or accidents.. i pay about 120 a month from allstate.. i've heard that the 420a is a really good engine to modify. you could always buy like a $4000 N/t and put 4grand into it and make it as good as a gst or tsi. a decent gsx or awd tsi with low miles will cost you about the same as turbocharging a n/t.. its all about money, and if you can afford it. i just wish money would grow on trees though..

So bottom line, is gettin a 98 GSX with 60,000 miles a good idea or bad idea? I am not looking to do any major mods right now. Just intake/exhaust and BOV. I just wanna make sure the car is not going to give me alot of trouble. I know a far amount about cars and my brother is a excellent mechanic so if i need any minor things done he can do it.

I have a 97 Talon TSi AWD and I love it...only 60K mi original owner. I just got it a couple of weeks ago. I have had no problems so far. I will give you my list of pros and cons.

***My Pros***

AWD is great in the wet (especially in the Pacific NW)

Handling is REALLY GOOD...I had an RSX type S w/ suspension mods and stock my TSi is a much better handler than it.

Power/Tq is pretty good but its potential is great.

Sounds great (turbo sound it great)

Hatchbacks can swallow up lots of junk with the seats down

Respect from all import owners (and some domestic owners that aren’t ignorant)...especially off the line ;)

***My Cons***

Gas mileage sucks...I get around 20mpg stock and that’s on good behavior (limited boost)

High-end power sucks stock

No room in back seat for anyone older than 10 years old...don’t even try

Stock seats aren’t bolstered well and IMHO are crap

Cheap parts (i.e. BOV is plastic, accordion turbo pipes, some interior trim that is cheap etc etc)

Overall I like my choice...I got it to mod it and to have a quick car w/ a reasonable investment.

Good luck.

Thats not bad. How much lbs. of boost do they run stock? Are 98 GSX's reliable cars, or will it give me lots of trouble?
