alright first of all im buiding my 1st gen 6bolt all my parts are listed in my profile... i ordered some pistons off of ebay .020 over 8.5.1 compression and frankly im alittle worried about them being what i want or hold up there no name pistons but they seem ok.... just wanted to get some opinions on these im also using stock 1st gen big rods and worried about those also this is my second car and didnt have a problem with the first ones i used but lookin for big power out of this engine!

if your really looking to make big power i would not trust ebay no name pistons, ever heard the saying you pay for what you get. dont go cheap on an important piece like the piston.

What kind of HP are you looking to run?

I'm running 2g OEM style pistons on 1g rods with about 20,000 miles and have ran several mid to high 11 second passes (around 400whp) without an issue.

Man there is alot of people on this forum from the NW:thumb:

well i was being optimistic with a 12.0 but want faster this car is gonna be stripped when im done im not going to be driving it on the street very much at all itll have a cage, big turbo all that i want a 11.9 pretty bad but well see so thats kinda my goal. i understand about the pistons but what about the rods???? are they gonna hold?

If all you're wanting is 11's there is no need to strip the car and do a big turbo etc..etc..

You can run 11's on a very SIMPLE setup with full interior and daily drive the car. Also, I would pawn off the eBay pistons for either a set of Wiseco/Ross or Even 2G pistons.

Hope that helps,

yeah the only problem with that is i already had my block bored to those pistons! and rods mounted which thats not a big deal! so get rid of the pistons what brand any recomendations! and the reason im only shooting for 11s is gst! not gsx!

You can get most pistons for a 20 over bore, I would recommend Wiseco, JE, or Ross pistons. You should definitely get better, proven pistons. Its not worth the time and effort if your cheap pistons don't hold up. The rods should be ok, but you might as well upgrade them too while you have the pistons out, it's always good insurance to upgrade parts.

Well either way you need to put pistons in that you know will last, and that's up to how much you're willing to spend. If it were me, I wouldn't take chances with no-name pistons and have to rip apart my engine AGAIN because I wasn't willing to spend the money the first time.

Just to let you know, I am also going with JE Pistons and Eagle Rods. Like I say if you are in there just do it all and do it right the first time.

Not sure what kind of pistons you want for $800 but a set of JE, Wiseco or Ross pistons will run you right around $400 from a vendor or maybe find a deal in the classifieds. There are a few people on here that run the Topline pistons, $150.00 off eBay and have no problems with them. They are meant to be as good or a little better quality than OEM. For your goals OEM or Topline pistons would be fine with the big rods.

Good enough for what you want. 1g rods have taken over 500whp and go to the Search and type in Topline Pistons and you will get a lot of threads to read about them. It will be enough for what you want.

for 800 you can get pistons and rods, I found a set on extremepsi.com for 720 or so, but if your looking for a 12s then I'd go with 2g pistons 1g big rods, should be able to push 400+hp, but I wouldn't trust those cheap ebay pistons a friend used some got around 3 blocks (not joking) and blew the piston to pieces not even pushing the motor. you can find some cheap 2g pistons or topline pistons.

alright so i bought some cheap .020 pistons on ebay a couple weeks ago took it to the machine shop with my block and my machinist along with a couple people on here said no dont do it! well heres the deal im rapped up in this engine alot already im running stock rods i want to know what the stock rods will take. how good are they since im here should i just get different ones???? and pistons some people said top lines i know nothing about these. does anybody????? k i have a upgraded list of my mods in my profile... im looking for a car that will see some street but not a daily driver... it will be mostly at the track.... please help me

Most of that didn't make sense to me, so Ill do what I can.

Your asking if stock rods with hold up in a track car, answer is yes for a bit but no in the long run. If your building a race car you need race parts, if you skimp and use stock rods your gambling with your motor. Go get you a nice set of rods and be done with it.

Lets see, you want to build a "track car" yet youre using "eBay" no name pistons. Hmm.... Someone doesnt have their priorities straight.
