Ask Me, Virginia
I purchased a set of locking hood pins off of ebay years ago and thought that it would be easy to get spares if I lost the keys.

Of course, once contacted, the vendor advised that he could not get spares if needed and the manufacturer is unknown.

I did my typical rounds to Lowes and the local auto parts stores chains and they didn't know either.

I cut up my hood pretty well for these hood pins so getting a new brand won't fly.

Does anyone know where I can get additional keys before I lose the keys and it becomes a real panic and expensive as heck?

Pics of key below.

Thanks!!

Might look into someone making a key. I had to do it on my 96 gs. A locksmith might be able to. I had a friend of mine do it.

Thanks guys....and yes those are the hood pins. Are all of the keys the same though?

For $15 dollars, you really cannot go wrong just getting another set. That set comes with two keys. It would be cheaper than having a locksmith making a key.

Yes what I meant was are all of the keys the same? Would all of the locks be "openable" by the same set (existing and newly purchased)?

I STILL have my 2 keys for my installed set. The idea of losing the keys one day makes me kind of nervous though. This is why I was wondering if by purchasing that set, I'd then have 4 working keys for my now installed set.

Is each key set unique?

Keep one key hidden in the car at all times. In a spot only you know, then if you loose one, you still have one in/with the car.

But yeah, locksmith would be the way to go.

I keep a spare at home in case someone has to come and get me. I'd like 4 hood pins...2 on each side to be honest because I read that these hood pins are not intended to be used without the factory latch. Nice to find this out 3 years after buying them. The latch on the CF hood failed.

This is why I'd also like to know if all keys and locks are interchangeable.

i dont know if they keys are interchangeable, but i have almost he same set on my drag mustang, and i have been at almost 200 mph many times with no issues to date

if all else fails, a good machine shop could probably make you some, but it wont be cheap

Well I'd have to say that they did hold when the CF hood latch failed.

Did a google search where some guy (ironically a Mustang driver) said his hood flew up with them. Never saw anything like that before (not like I searched for it before).

200 mph? Lol, I hardly EVER get on this GVR4...and if I did it wouldn't be 200 mph....that car sounds impressive. Did you keep your factory latch though?

indeed it is, but no i did not, thats weight LOL any its a pin on hood, it would hit the windshield before it would open enough to do anything

You got that right. "That's weight"....my sentiments exactly.

yeah LOL, the mustang last dyno was something like 909 horse at 6300 rpm on pump gas

Locksmith is probably the way to go.. and fastest. I just had mine done a few days ago
