Keep your stock latch and the hoodpins that way its always locked, thats how I would do it.

you know, i saw them on a honda civic one time and they looked really good, but i think on our cars it would be a huge battle to make them line up properly since our hood has more of a slope down where you would mount them.

what i did was this...
i got these hood pins -> http://www.performancebodies.com/store/product.asp?pf_id=010102&dept_id=820

and then i used them for a while and the paint wore off the scuff gaurds, so i covered them in a thin sheet of CF i ordered off of ebay, and the end result can be seen here...

i would shoot exposed parts of the pins and the posts with a clear coat before you mount them and maybe order 2 sets just for good measure.... they are only $10 so what the hell right?

oh yeah, those locking hood pins are virtually useless to. i saw a video on how to unlock those types of locks with an empty roll of toilet paper and a bic pen. i would just consider them like normal hood pins.

thats a good idea about the carbon hood pin. how hard is it to do it yourself. im scared to #### somethin up. Also is there anything i should do to the hood to keep it in good condition before i install. it already has a clear coat

It's pretty easy to do. Here's what I did.

Ingredients:
sheet of carbon fiber that is about .015" thick (got mine from composite envisions on ebay)
the hood pins in the link above
permatex epoxy
some sandpaper (used to scuff the surfaces)

1. take your scuff gaurds and rough them up really good. Then rough up the rough side of the CF (there is a smooth side and a rough side)
2. epoxy the scuff gaurds to the sheet of carbon fiber. make sure not to go too crazy with the epoxy, but make sure you get enough on there.
3. wait the 4 hours for it to dry and then use a pair of scissors to rough cut out the plates you got there and then use a dremel or a table belt sander to make the edges nice and round. CF is unbelievably easy to work with... you dont gotta go nuts trying to cut away the edges. put some painters tape on the scuff guards because you are gonna be working with the nice face face down and you dont wanna scuff them up before you get them on the car.
4. then use a drill press or another drill setup to drill the holes for screws and then (i think, make sure you double check) a 1/4" hole through the scuff guard.
5. mount them on the car and then use a drill to widen the hole and make sure to align the hood pin so it's all gravy. it's really a lot of trial and error.

tip: a spray can on its side makes a good hood prop... just high enough to hold open the hood so you can see what you're doing.

good luck... make sure to get two sets of these pins incase you mess up. i dont see how you could possibly mess up, but whatever.

come to think of it, i should make this into a tech article... hmmmm...

thanks for the help and yes the tech article is a good idea

i have the locking hoodpins but i havnt installed them yet..

they seem to be a great idea.. esp when the cops get u perhaps? if they ask to pop your hood.. can't you just say its locked and you dont have the key? perhaps get them in a bind on what to do.. they would need a warrant or something to search it? and go through a big hassle for you to get your key just to open it?

you make a good point i think its a law they need a warrant to search anything that is locked up. i dont have the problems like you do in california but i guess thats a good idea for people that are. that could be a funny thing to see, im sure the cop would look dumb founded

Sure. And they can impound your car. But let's not go there in this thread. :nono:

They will just impound it if you don't comply. This has nearly happened to me.

I'd bust the punks that rape, steal and murder.

they can impound your car because you chose not to open your hood or because you cant because its locked and you dont have the key at the moment? i rather have them get me for exhaust then getting me for a bunch of other stuff in the engine bay.. they would have some kind of check, but not a total inspection due to the hood being locked.. it would be nice to find a loophole like this haha
