Are these low priced boost controllers off ebay worth it???? They cost half the price of a brand named boost controller does. Has anyone used one of these boost controllers? Its a very tempting deal any feedback would help thanks.

My buddy bought his boost controller on ebay and it seems to work just fine. He's never complained about his japan knockoff brand.

MBCs are pretty simple devices. I can't say for sure, but one of the brand name companies may have just made the pieces and sold the stock to someone to brand it with their own name.

As long as it isn't made out of plastic I wouldn't worry. Just check the feedback and/or search for similar items already sold. See what the buyers are saying.

:)

As with anything from eBay, they are hit or miss. Mass produced and not quality tested = maybe you get one that doesn't have any flaws, or maybe you get the one that has the most. If you get unlucky and get one that doesn't work well and you have to buy another one you're better off just getting one with a good rep and will for sure work.

Something as simple as a manual boost controller I wouldn't worry about it breaking. An EBC on the other hand... I would definitly do my research.

Make sure and report back when you've made your decision!

I'm running 10psi for now, until I get everything else on my car fixed. It's a MBC. It's $13.74 on Ebay right now (shipping included). I've been using it for about a month now. I'd turn the boost up a little more, but I was limping along with boost leaks and a bad wheel bearing until I got my car home from college. It's up on two jack stands now.

It's a ball and spring MBC without any of the fancy casing. I'm going to paint it black (it's brass) and hide it under a pipe somewhere.

I can take it out of my car, take it apart, and put a pic up in here if someone wants. I was going to reset the boost level after I fixed my car anyways.

Ive got the voodoo mbc from ebay. Probably have had it for two years, no problems...

So here's the inner workings of that NXS MBC. I have half my car apart anyways, so why not the MBC?

1.) It's not very big.
2.) There's all the innards. Made out of 7 pieces total.
3.) The ball seats in there very nicely.

And you can't beat the price. :D

EDIT: You can find instructions on how to make this exact MBC somewhere on the internet, but it was more expensive for me to buy the parts than to buy it already made.

definately weird....i got that same exact one like 4 years ago and it wouldn't work right on my talon.....i still had it laying around so i sold it cheap to my buddy and we put it on his vr4 galant and it works just fine.

hit or miss i'd say but very cheap and most of them work

Consider how easily they are constructed (I've built one from home depot stock and it held great), I don't think you're gambling too much here. BTW my ebay MBS is holding up fine and not spiking from 10psi to 27psi on my holset (I lost the spring for my gillis boost valve).
