eBay Auto Shifter - Install/Review

The box is still functioning in the same manner as it was when I installed it.

I don't find myself using it that much, but when I feel like rocketing away from the pack at a stop light it comes in handy. I really need to go do some g-tech runs with it to see if there is any difference. The acceleration change from 1st to 2nd is noticeably greater with it turned on.

I can share a funny story though, the box even shifts quickly and violently into reverse too!:

Blonde Shift Technique

I decided to teach my fiancé how to use the shift box in the Talon...(you can see where this is going).

Everything is going good, I tell her how to get down to about 30mph if she really wants to launch hard when it downshifts into 1st, works just fine, 19lbs of boost and she's flying, confidence is high, things are looking good...

Next step, combine shifting with acceleration, and a little steering (harder than you may think!)
I tell her to hit it, take it to about 5500rpm and shift into second, no problem...

1st comes up to about 5500rpm and with lightning precision she pushes the button on top of the shifter (after all you have to, to make it move), and quickly slams it into REVERSE! ROFL, about the same time the car nosed down violently and the loud thud occurred I quickly yanked it back into drive as she coasted to a near stop in the middle of the road. At this point I have a choice, look at her with a blank stare or laugh my ass off, I chose the latter. She said she thought you needed to push the button to get it to change gears, which is true, mostly. She was all revved up and ready to go, that sucker got slammed forward with excitement..

Man, it was funny. After driving around some more we finally got it down but she still lifts off the gas before she shifts... Time for another day.

Now I laugh because I did the exact same thing in high school in front of a bunch of people at school in the 'vette, came out of the parking lot with it in 1st, and went to shift it up into 2nd under WOT and accidentally smacked the button and it went right into reverse, talk about looking like an azz hat. LOL

Anyways, tranny is still in one piece for now and running strong.

Wow, I would have went with the blank stare.:| Then I wouldn't let her drive it again.

I had my hand behind the shifter just in case. I got it out of reverse very quickly. However, my knees actually hurt for a while after from the impact... LOL

DreamOn It is "her" car, more or less. She has always wanted one and I got it to coerce her into bracket racing with me. I have my own Hot Rod, but as it turns out I work on this one a lot and drive it the most.. LOL

You have full control of all 4 forward gears, with 4th [overdrive] being controlled by the O/D button.

I got my setup in the mail just the other day, everything is very well put together and the instructions are well worded. I plan on installing this with my SAFC, 450cc injectors, and new shortblock within the next couple weeks, hopefully I'll be driving this damned thing soon to tell you guys how it works.

I definitely think it's worth it. I'm anticipating great things.

So with the box on does the tranny still shift hard in drive? Or because you have it turned on you have to shift it your self?

You'll have to shift yourself. Leave it in Drive, you'll be in 3rd [or 4th, depending if O/D is on].

I just got mine in the mail too. It's a very well put together box. I ordered a different covered toggle switch to match my cars interior because I'm retarded like that. I can't wait to put this in. I'm waiting for a few other items before I get it installed but can't wait to see what it can do.

People are going to look at me crazy when I tell them I practice rev-matching downshifts in my auto. :thumb:

LOL Yeah, I'm kinda curious and a bit concerned with the manual downshifting from how it was previously described as "violent". I guess we'll see when it's in. Anyone else who's currently using it have any experiences to share?

Ok, so basically this is the RMT mod, just finally retailed in a nice package. Am I correct? This essentially allows the AT to change gears without the delay/inaccuracy inherent in just doing it by hand without the mod? That's how I understand the RMT mod works.

Close, but no cigar.

This is the RMT manumatic mod, and it is very nicely packaged. However, with this box installed and enabled, the transmission constantly wants to upshift, and is held back by manu-shifting with the lever. When you select a gear with the lever, it will instantly shift into that gear, and not shift up or down until you move the lever.

This box very basically is, A MANUAL VALVE BODY, in electronic form. :thumb:

EDIT: Whoops, you and I are saying the same thing. I mis-read your post.

Well this is exactly what I'm looking for as I was about to try my hand at the RMT mod. This simplifies things for me greatly and I can't wait until he gets some more up on ebay! :D

Is this shift box safe to use when driving normally? Or is it just supposed to be a once in a while thing, and for when your at the track?

And if normal driving is okay, how would you downshift when coming to a stop light or something?

Maybe i'm way off base here, but i thought manual shifting our at dsm's wasn't a good thing. Or does this finally allow us to do just that? I guess i don't totally understand how this works.

Also, with it engaged and you upshift through the gears is it possible once in D to turn it off and let the car downshift itself?

It indeed allows us to do just that, manually-shift our cars.

Yep. When off, the box allows the car to drive as if it's not even installed.

You could go so far as to even downshift with the box active, so long as you're good at rev-matching. :thumb:

Has anybody received a copy of the revised install instructions yet?

Nope, but I received an email from Shawn saying that I'd get them today. Kit looks very nice for the price and I can't wait to install it. The switch is comes with sucks, as it's plastic, but I'll be getting a metal one to replace it.

Every time he posts new ones on ebay he raises the price $5 to $10, so I'm glad I got in when it was cheap!

When it was cheap? It still is affordable, haha.

On a side note, I'm not sure how one would revise the install notes, they make perfect sense to me. :thumb:
