I have a 99 gst and im getting a crank position sensor code on my scan tool and Im new to dsms, i was wondering where exactly its located ( looked online and asked a few friends and got a few different answers) and whats the easiest method of replacing it is and if i should go oem or just hit napa?

IT is located under the lower timing belt cover on the oil pump case. You will have to remove the cover to get it off. For a replacement go to oreilly and get the bwd brand. They are a repackaged Mitsubishi part with a lifetime warranty that you won't get at the dealer, but it is the same exact oem part. IT is really uncommon to have excessive crank end play on a 99 block, but i would check the sensor for damage from contacting the trigger plate also.

I forgot to mention, you can also get the beck arnley sensor from rockauto for around 45, but it only has a 1 year warranty vs the lifetime at oreilly.

I had a bolt fall out of the front balance shaft and nick the trigger plate, which then took out the CPS.

Just make sure you run the wiring correctly or the timing belt will wear though it (don't ask me how I know that.)

Ouch, on the other hand you got lucky that didn't get in the belt, LOL.

Do i have to remove any pulleys or belts to get to this or should it just be simple and im over complicating it?

the easiest way to replace that sensor is to unbolt it and cut it off if your trying to take it out of there, when you install the new sensor, you won't have to take the t-belt off if you come up around the top of the oil case and bend the t-belt to allow the front part of the sensor to be fished through. This is not recommended, but is possible. It can be done if need be to see if this is the problem.

Just looked inside of my lower cover and i found a small belt shard , this cant be good, will let you know what i find out when i find it out.

Well my crank sensor is all chopped apart and there is parts of a belt thqt is like 1/2" wide and it didnt seem very long, is this a belt for the balance shaft or what? And i tried movinv my crank forward and back and there is no play that i could notice atleast, some help figuring this out would be appreciated

I had the same thing happen to me, a bolt took the plate out. I took one of my friends 2GA CPS.

Is there a difference between 2GA and 2GB CPS sensors?

Because now Im not getting fuel at all. Would the CPS cause my ECU to not send fuel?
