Hey guys, Iknow ive been posting alot latley but Iwas wondering what is the easiest way to change my tq converter?? I just bought a Race 3500 Converter and its all ready to be installed along with a flex plate and Iwas wondering the easiest way to install it, Iwould prefer to not have to take out the whole tranny. If anyone could offer some help it would be appreciated greatly! Thanks guys! AUTOMATICS!!! :talon: :dsm:

well sorry to disapoint..but you will half to remove your trans to put it in..and on an awd your transfer case will half to be dropped as well..it wont be that bad though you should b able to knock it out in a weekend if you havnt done it before...

darn, LOL. Ok well once i have the tranny out will the old tq converter just slide out? then i just bolt new flexplate to my new tq converter and slide it back in the tranny and im done? after that just bolt it all back and im good to go? just making sure. thanks alot!

Tranny will have to come out, but the flex plate will have to be unbolted from and bolted to the T.Q. as it is bolted to the crank as well. New flex plate gets bolted to the crank before tranny install. Just use the access cover to get those bolts out. The tourqe converter will slide right out of the bell housing and back in without force or extra work. If you run into problems let us know.

try to chalk up that driveshaft too. Its a good practice to put the U-joints back the way they went in. Also on wolf20034's post (not picking just adding) dont try to get the trans out without unbolting the converter the flexplate bolts first. your going to have to turn the plate to get all the bolts loose. Ive seen people just yank on a tranny thinking the converter will just stay with the flexplate. Its not the easiest path so just giving you a heads up

Um....that is what I was trying to tell him. Even if he pulled the t/q from the tranny, those bolt HAVE to come out first. Which is where the access cover comes into place.

well, either way it will be a learning experience for him:p

Not trying to bust your balls, sorry. Its all love in the true DSMer's mind

There is not easy way about. You must separate the engine and trans.
Remove down pipe and t-case. Disconnect lower ball joints and strut and you can pop out axles without completely removing them. Yes you definetly will not get them separated without unbolting torque converter first to get the tranny out.
NOTE: when installing new converter, put a couple quarts in the converter first!!!
Also while putting the converter on the trans, you will have to spin it and keep applying pressure to seat the splines. Sometimes it is a pain, and you might not realize if its all the way on.

LOL, alright guys well i did most of it today (unbolted both axle nuts, transfer case, downpipe, all upper connections, pass mount, intake blah blah) all i have left is to take the axles out of the tranny, unbolt converter bolts, unbolt tranny and drop it down. hope it fixes my problem, we will see. oh and on another note the crown shaped axle nuts (huge nuts in middle of rotor) on my car took 2 hours to get both sides off..OMG. they were so rusted that the grafted onto the hub itself, i used pb blaster, a dremel hammer foot everything. that took a big part of my day today. LOL

Any updates?

I am guessing the valve body bolts you were looking for are the hold up.

Yea they were, but i got it all installed, end clutch kit, translab, and the rezlo carbonkevlar converter.....WOW it works FANTASTIC! best mod ive ever done!

whats the specs? and info on your tq conveter? is it still a stock trans just w/ everything u've done recently?

**nevermine i found the link to the website you got yours from, looks like a real good deal**

I asked cuase I believe stock stalls somewhere about 3000 so 3500 isnt a big difference and 3500 over stock would be 6000+ not very streetable IMO

Ty for link

haha yea thats true, i'll take that back. i know i can stall my 14b til about 3200-3500 sometimes a little higher. and launch at full boost which was 17psi right after the install of the 14b.

Yea stock can stall to 3500 but not that safley and only for a sort period of time, and even then it deteriorates on the stock converter fast. The stock flash stall on a 2g dsm is 1850 flash stall (true stall 3500 or so) and mine is set at a 3500 flash stall that will stall even higher under boost (the true stall). So basically you guys stalling on the stock up to a 3500 (your true stall) and my true stall will be upwards of 4-5krpm on the 3500 flash stall converter. also mine is set to 500hp, ...this thing is a beast. On my car i have a shift kit, end clutch kit, and this carbon kevlar 3500 rezlo (800 dollar custom unit) installed.

LOL your actually the first to notice that, thats from like a year ago (obviously not recent) and that track time was at half throttle with the power you see there (never went full throttle due to boost creep, went 50% throttle on safc), once i get my new sbr fmic and trans cooler in im going to get the car tuned and redynod and take it to the track. within the month if all goes well.
