Eagle Talon 420A stock motor losing HP???

I have a 420a motor on a 95 talon and it just doesn't seem as fast as I think it is. Could there be something wrong with the motor? It seems like I am losing allot of horsepower when im driving it. I added an SRS ebay exhaust to make it sound better a couple days ago but I don't notice a noticeable difference in power. I was planning on adding headers and an intake but thats about it...

The main reason why I am making this thread is because I was driving my moms 1993 stock toyota camry the other day and it was pulling very more noticeably faster on freeways and just roads in general. Both cars are automatics. The buyer i bought my talon from was an old man and had a short commute so it started almost every week it just wasn't driven as much

my talon has 90k miles and my moms toyota camry has 180k original miles on original motor. When I look online the 93 XV10 toyota camry's have 130 hp compared to my talons 140 hp ..

A slow 420A? That's a new one. Honestly though, try doing some regular maintence. Change the air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, etc. Usually anything more then a cat-back exhaust will only increase the volume of your exhaust, not power, so I would stick with your cat-back.

right when i bought the car i changed the oil, anti freeze and thermostat, put NGK spark plugs and changed the air filter

Change the spark plug wires as well . Also get a air intake (might help since my DD is a 99 rs 420a auto) I changed my header/ downpipe and put a high flow cat on and noticed a diff( also have a neo) . But the 420a wasnt actually designed for power without work. If this is a new car for you it might be wise to have the timing belt done as well (if it wasnt already). GL and happy tuning

Good point, I missed you are in cali, That explains some power loss. If its a cali model its got less power than a non-cali model .. opps . but still GL

what spark plug wires do you recommend with the NGK spark plugs I have now...

i dont care about cost as much as I want the best quality that will match my NGK spark plugs

as for as smog goes for the calli I do my emissions at arizona I live in south cal right between the az and eastern cali border

Go with simple power, headers, air intake, and little bolt ons.

Hmm.. damned smog. Glad I live in an area where you can drive a tractor belching smoke down the road if you want.

Get a Hard-pipe intake. Run some Sea-Foam through your engine. NGK-Wires are pretty decent and you can get them in a pretty blue color from a local parts store.

All in all... I don't like 420a DSMs... Sure, there are some that are powerful, but look at the work. =/ I've only personally seen one push 160ish with an CAI, Intake Manifold upgrade, and full exhaust... and a few other things i'm not too sure on.

Please, whatever you do, do NOT buy an eBay 'Complete Turbo Kit' for power. >.<

AEM intake, Greddy header. both have CARB exempt #s. But it's expensive.

I agree completely . And for sure dont get an ebay turbo kit. A buddy bought one and the turbo went out with less than 1000 miles on it at low boost. I also run ngk plugs and wires ( iridium plugs ,forrget the code on them ) . Gl and happy tuning

Ah! That brought up a good point.

Don't get Platinum plugs. Our cars dislike them.

Copper is what our vehicles enjoy.

snag some MSD wires. Also check compression
