I was at a junkyard looking at a well picked over turbo 1g, about three Navy guys starting looking for any scraps left..I asked if any of them had one, " Yeah, I gota twin turbo one." WTF
 
ok, so I'm cruisin in my 95 tsi awd, at about 60 mph, come up on a 3g eclipse with a fart can exhaust. naturally I do what any other turbo owner would do... I got up next to him and picked on him, gave a rev or 3 hit third and took off. when I got in front of him to my surprise he had a fmic. I ran into him at a local taco bell so I asked him "so is your 420a turbocharged?" he said no, to that I said WTF??? I then asked the next question, "why do you have a front mount intercooler"? he said "oh that thing... it looks cool" and proceeded to tell me how I needed to get one to make my car look cooler:ohdamn:

MORON!!

Way to own yourself. And I don't know about you, but this turbo owner doesn't need to make his madhood feel bigger by picking on slower cars.
 
dumbest thing ive ever heard,,, i was crusing my 1g around my friends neighborhood and at a redlight and notice an eclipse behind me pull up. i proceeded to drive to advance auto and this kid follows me so when i get out of the car he asks "hey is that a talon or an eclipse?" it says talon right on the back of the car that he followed for 2 miles.

iv heard this before and seen some twin turbo 4cyl cars (not dsm) its stupid and useless. they dont seem to understand the engine dosent produce enough exhaust to power both.

the dumest thing iv heard was "yea im selling my GSX for a SRT-4" was my friend LOL

I dont know dude. He might know a little bit or more if he knew the facts that us DSM'rs change and swap body parts on our cars.

99GST_RACER & Kevin Jewer may beg to differ with your assertions. Considering both are running compound turbo set-ups (a.k.a two turbos or twin turbos) and are getting remarkable results.

Helping my buddy build his compound setup as we speak, and then I will begin work on my own. Now, I am not trying to completely rip you, but research goes a long ways today.

Why do you feel like us turbo owners have the need to go pick on 3Gs or any other car for that matter. I know my crap is fast and don't need to piss on anyone else's day with it. This is the problem with the Honda community, now I see DSMLand is heading towards this. It breaks my heart.

Now, not trying to go off topic here... but everyone knows that I'm a pretty curious person when it comes to soaking up questionable information...but isn't there a difference between a Compound Turbo setup and a Twin Turbo setup? From >MY< understanding, 99GST_RACER's setup has a smaller turbo providing boost to help the larger turbo spool up much quicker where-as a Twin Turbo setup has a smaller turbo building boost until enough exhaust is achieved for the large turbo to pick up?

I haven't read into ANY depth into Twin/Compound setups, so feel free to correct me.

Edit : Info found - Parallel and Sequential. ;D I don't think our engines could maintain a Parallel setup, but certainly a Compound/Sequential. It's been proven!
 
I'd be willing to surmise a 2.4L could handle a 16G/20G parallel system. I guess it's something to try. :O

However, yes there are differences, but they are both twin turbo setups by definition.

^^ I forgot about the 2.4. I'd like to see this! Not specificaly for performance or anything, just more for what the results would be!
 
Ive never seen "remarkable" results from a compound set up. Quicker spool for the larger turbo used is the only advantage. Ive seen it on dsm's and cavaliers and the numbers are always sub par for even the smaller turbo they use in the set up. But hey it looks cool when you pop your hood at a meet :thumb:

Anyway a friend asked another dsm owner how much boost he was running and he says "i think about 100lbs."
 
I totally forgot that I had an encounter at wal-mart last night!

So..an old friend of mine just got back from deployment and bought a 2G N/T. I pulled up beside him and he had a couple of guys sitting around the car talking to him. He commented on my new 2G and was joking about how I moved up in the world. He's not a entirely knowledgeable on the cars, so he asked if it was turbo'd and I told him it was. Stock 7 Bolt 4G63T. His friends were just listening at this point. He asked what 7 bolt meant and I told him, and then we started talking back and forth about the turbo'd DSMs. He said that he was thinking about turboing his and I have him this '..uh.. what?' look. He quickly responded with " No dude, I know it's going to take a lot of work! I've read up on it and I'm going to do it right. Low boost, forged internals, the works. I'm not THAT retarded. " So I was relieved.

This other guy decided he's going to put his two cents in at that moment.

"Man, I have a turbo kit sitting in my floor at home. We can put it on and set it for about 8 LBS and you can push almost 400Lbs. It'll be faster than his factory setup."
Me : " Oh? You're just gonna slap a, lemme guess, T3/T4 turbo on a 420a without any supporting mods and 'tune' it to 8 'pee ess eye'...and get 400 FWHP? "
Him : " Yeah! It's not that hard. 8 PSI is crazy high for these cars. "
Me : " Oh.. well.. that's weird.. cause my factory setup is set at 14.. Guess I'm gonna blow my bottom end. "
Him : " Whatever man. Those 4T63's can't handle that boost. "
Friend at his 'friend' : " Hah.. dude, shut up! I own a 420a know better than that. Keep your turbo kit and go blow up your civic. Or run him and see what your 8lbs does! "

xD Needless to say.. was pretty funny.
 
well in his defense, 420a's can handle a good 8-10 psi on a stock engine, and they will move, and depending on driver skill beat most stock to lightly modded 4g63ts. HOWEVER, there is nooooo way in hell it would push anywhere close to 400whp, more like half that.
 
Oh, I know the safe levels of the 420a, but he was just under the impression that anything over 5PSI was 'crazy high' boost levels. Later in the conversation he about got sick when I said there were modded 4G63T's out there running well over 25 - 30 ;P

I'm just glad my friend wasn't dumb enough to fall in with it. ^^ Always nice to find a non-ricey 420a. They're good DD cars.

the dumbest thing wasnt about a dsm. it was an old porsche 924 and he tried to tell me it was turbo because his mommy bought him a car manual for it and it said turbo on it. even though i tried to tell him theres no turbo on the car. he then tried telling us you can switch the turbo on with a switch.

First of all,I left this part out because I didnt want to bash him too bad and I thought it wasnt that important but i guess it is so let me clerify. One of my best friends knows this kid with the 3g, and the more I learned about him over the course of a couple years just from what my friend has told me fives me the right to make fun plus he is a total douch!!! he told countless people his car had a t3/t4 turbo and it could beat anyone around but he would never race, my 2g at the time was stock and ran good but like I said it was stock. at the time I figured what the hell if he beats me he beats me. I didnt at the time and still do not know anything about 3g's matter of fact what little bit I do know the MORON told me. he didnt even race me cause he knew he would loose he acts like his shit is the shit:nono: I use to live in a small town and the two fastest cars in town were dsm's and mine was not one of them. so if your gonna bash someone, bash the douch and not a fellow dsmer.

Dont mean to get defensive but the 3g kid needs to learn and telling the dsm world about his stupidity is the only way.

just to clerify I dont know squat about 3g's.and he told me thats the motor he had so i guess he knows less than i thought. I am in no way bashing 420a drivers I love whatever has a dsm logo on it! but I am bashing those who lie about their cars, he would have lied about whatever he drove but he just happen to drive an eclipse
