This toolbag I used to hang out with would say some crazy sh!t. He knows absolutely EVERYTHING and can never be wrong or admit a mistake. He drives a Spyder because he said "that's what chicks dig" even though half the time he acts like he's queer.

-Cams don't add HP. If you get cams you don't need anything bigger then 264. If you want 272 or 280's get adjustable cam gears and degree them.

-A PTE6152 is going to get him 700+HP because it's equivalent of a 40R.

-DSMlink isn't proven. No ones ran faster then 11's with it.

-He has never taken his car down the track but knows his GST with 16G, 3" exhaust, and stock IC runs 11's flat on 9psi.

-Once he builds his high HP car he's only using Autozone stock clutch because with lifetime warranty it's stupid to spend the extra money.

-All this and he claims to have a 8 second tube chassis car him and his buddy bought from Buschur but keeps it in PA. Doesn't want to draw attention or show off.

-He also changes Brent Rau's head gaskets at the shootout.

-He hangs out with Jon Shepherd at Summit racing because that's where he goes all the time for the Talon.

-At the 2011 shootout he said the 7 second RX7 was the Able brothers not the 3 fast as hell autos. He knows all this because he talked to them.

-He was flashing the 98-99 ECU's before anyone else was. He also claims to have had all the ECU codes to burn chips for eproms before Jeff at DSMchips started selling them. Him and Jeff are the only two people on the planet with codes for the 2G.

-FWD will out perform AWD any day. AWD isn't for performance they only made them because they sold DSMs in areas that snow.

-Body kit is the only way to improve flow.

All the bullsh!t and he's a mechanic and a motorcycle tech. In fact he claims to have designed the combustion chambers for the R1. He pulled so much timing my car would barely move, would sputter, and back fire but I was told it wasn't the tune it was the driver. He either did a horrible tune or is that jealous of someone with a better setup.

haha, im sure this is the same person that i know from the first shootout that i ever went to. we chill at the campground every year. i LOVE this kid haha and it looks like almost everyone at the shootouts really like him when we walked around with him, always a crowd walking up to give him hugs and stuff when i was around the only thing that i can say is that he was in a rwd tube looking car once that i know of. pittsburgh raceway park is my local track and he did show up a few years back with his g/f (wife?) and he did have a rwd dsm, didnt get to see it run much it looked like it gave him fits the whole time and ended up winching it back into the trailer and must have left before i got to talk to him, the car looked pretty sick though

but the body wasnt a thing of beauty on it looked like it could use some fresh paint because it was a bright color from f&f . the shootout that rau was at was my second shootout and i chilled with him some that year and i do remember him having rau's head about a foot over top of the block while rau cleaned the top of the block and dropped another gasket on it so maybe that is where he gets that he "changed" rau's gasket i did hear him tell someone that he gave rau a hand with a gasket but i never did hear him say that he changed it for him. not sure how well you know him or what he did to you. maybe he ripped you off or something? he seems like a super smart kid and has always been chill to everyone that i have seen him around. just wanted to put my .02 in to give a fact on the couple of things that i know about.

Had a new guy start working with us a couple weeks ago, aparently he likes electrical and it was said he was an Aircraft electrician in the military.

We have this roll around dolley with a battery on the tray, couple wires running up from the battery into a makeshift switch panel with trailer pigtails hanging off (basic 4 wire, 7 wire, etc). You know, so we could hook up to a trailer and check the lights, electric brakes, etc. It's just a few switches hooked to your everyday car battery.

I notice this guy is actin real skeptical about using it. He's avoiding contact with anything metal on it, careful about not touching any bare terminals and basically just about the put some high tech gloves on or something. I'm like wtf ARE you doing. Just plug the friggin trailer in already.

I need to move from the town ASAP. Every DSM owner here thinks they're the next Brian Spilner and doesn't know a spark plug from a hole in the ground. One dude here has a GT35 turbo on his GST putting down under 350hp. Had the money to buy a GT35, but still rocks a mismatched front bumper. Another guy has a 50 trim running E85 (on 850's), professionally tuned making 350hp at the wheels. These guys have thousands in turbo setups and my s16g could keep up all night. Not to mention they say things like "Check your distributor" when locals have problems, and when I try to correct them I'm some kind of moron.

So then today I'm on the FB, and I mention something about selling my TSi and picking up a Genesis Coupe. As a college student it's not very realistic to have a race car, but I still want something fun to drive. One of these fools starts in with how "ghey" Hyundai's are, and I sound like a woman, and blah blah. I tell the guy the Theta engine in the new Hyundai's is very similar to the 4b11 found in the Evo X and is even co-manufactured by Mitsu. Again, I'm a moron and need to "shut up".

Ugh. The DSM scene around here is annoying to say the least.

Lol exactly. I'm not even taking it to heart. If the monkey's at the zoo throw poop at you, it's not like you can try and rationalize their actions. They're just idiots. So my friends list is 10lbs lighter, that's the best way to deal with them.

And it will be a long while before I make any real decisions about leaving the game or not. IF I do sell the Talon, I'll make sure the car doesn't end up with one of these noobs. But I really like the Genesis, and I could put down a massive down payment with the money from my Talon. Just trying to be realistic, ya know?

Around here, the Genesis can be found lightly used for less than $20K. That's less than guys want for 100k mile Evo's around here!

I've never looked into a G but that sounds pretty good compared to what I was thinking. It should be nice to get into a comfortable DD car though. No more compromising comfort for that little bit of power .

You might sell just because you need the money for a practical car or are you tired of the DSM?

I don't know if I'd get rid of my little hobby if I didn't have to, it keeps me busy figuring out new ways to mod different things. I actually recently relocated my brake reservoir over close to the clutch reservoir to make room for the Aeromotive FPR. Figured out the stock hoses wouldn't reach that well so I bought some Brembo clear tubing and wow, it's impressive I gotta say. Not to brag but it turned out really good!

And holy crap when did you go on a post count frenzy, we were tied for the longest time up until just a month ago!

I would like to keep the DSM in that scenario, but a 7-8k down payment on a 20k car would make monthly payments super affordable. And half the reason I would sell the DSM is to get rid of the temptation to modify it. I can't slap a Holset on a Genesis, so I won't be wrapped up in it like I am with the DSM. Hard intake piping, a nice exhaust, maybe a BOV is as far as I'd go. It's a bit slower than I'd hoped at only 200whp, but I'm really liking the whole "maintenance free" part.

I even had an old friend offer me 11.5K when it's done. If that happened, the wife would be getting a 4g Eclipse GT and we would keep the Spyder, maybe as something to mod on my spare time? IDK, it's all thinking out loud right now. I'm just trying to get this Holset installed!

And I've been on Christmas break for quite a while, so nothing but eat, sleep, DSMtuners.

That's what I think. 20k into a dam vs. 20k newish car= one kick ass ride setup to my personal tastes vs. 1 stock ride no different from any other that year, plus the need to pay that payment every month? Ill take the kick in the ass with the little downtime and laugh at the Hyundai's

Not to mention that new car warranties only come with new car maintenance service schedules. I've spent thousands in four years already just to KEEP my warranty.
Unfortunately, we get it in the butt here in Canada much more than the USA because of the supposed temperature differences. Service intervals are every 3Mo/3K on a Mitsu, whereas it's double that south of the border.

Yep, because we all know Pembina, North Dakota is balmy all year 'round.

I think your "maybe that wasn't directed solely at me detector" is off-kilter. The old "rearview" argument only carries so much weight, but is used by damn near every DSMer as a defense mechanism.

I tried to find Wes' profile to read the argument; I failed. I wanted to know more about my car from FB gurus.
