Back on topic:

I guess we will have to wait a bit and see what happens over on AF. Needless to say the subscription is cancelled on Modified mag, and I will never give them a dime.

While a good idea I'm not sure if anyone can handle the scale there are over 1,000,000 posts. 134,000 threads.

Maybe we start with the important sub-forums; gen tech, advanced, electronics. And split it up by date, each person take a different month, or set of days. then zip the files and one person combine them into a giant archive the could be emailed around.

i'm definately not the most computer literate person in the world but im definately wanting to give back to a community that has helped me out so many times. the main problem is going to be getting the man power to do this for sure. i'm just hoping enouhg people step forward because unlike last time the site went down we may have a short period of time to save all the info this site carries.

Ya. I can access DSMtalk as well right now. I have space on my laptop that I will donate to the better of the DSM community. Ill save files and diagrams and whatnot.

This DSM community needs to get its shit together - we are all DSM'ers and ALL of us love our cars and our community. Dont sit here and bicker about what site was better, or who the better members are or whatever. Our community is getting raped by corporate companies who denote the sport compact world and are out to seek money. If it wasnt for us (Tuners and performance freaks) Modified Mag as well as others wouldnt even be in publication- because nobody would buy the shit.
Untill everything gets sorted out close the ####ing book. I dont know about you guys but I love DSM's and I love anyone who owns one.
Later.

If i remember right, doesn't Modified Mag do a spread on the Shootout? (Only read the mag when that was in it). The fact is that money brought out the true side of "ekool" or whomever onwed DSMTALK. Shows what the dsm community means to that person....jackshit! :notgood:

Long live tuners!:dsm:

Well, last time I checked, I was entitled to an opinion, just like you are. I don't love everyone who owns a DSM especially if they act like 8 year olds. So, yes this site is better than DSMTalk and I am not alone when I say this. If you have a problem with that, deal with it.

But, I will take your advice and close the ####ing book. This thread was not about which site is better, so I won't discuss it further.

End of discussion.

yeah i cant acess it right now either dont know why...

i'm on, i'll donate as much of my 500GB as i can, what should i start saving? and how should i do it, i'm not very advanced but a little literate, should i copy and paste as much info as possible into like wordpad (i don't have word)

alright, well i'm tired so its time for bed but i got a couple things saved, cam comparison, FMIC install, and post by taboo about frozen suspension bushings, i'm not saving all the posts, just the ones that contain the info

Alright, this is whats up... A bunch of car forums were bought out and are gone or slowly going away and its not coming back. So I came here and found out some guy from Talk got really ****ing annoyed and built us a new forum. http://www.revivedracing.com/dsm.htm

i checked it out and its true, people are going there and they want us copy and paste our old info, so if you have any add to it or help copy and paste before everythings disappeared

i decided to check out revived racing, it's real. all the old members from talk need to join and help us back up the info from talk, i know a lot of people on either side hate the other, but we as a dsm community need to work together for this.
:dsm: :talon: :laser:

I go where the most members are at. A forum cannot function without members. When DSMTalk went down a while back, everyone just migrated here. Finally after Talk came back up, it just wasnt the same. Although it was a good place to search for subjects that might have been already been talked about in the past. Like an archieve. I like all the new features here on tuners now, but I still dislike the 700pixel limit on image posting. Can't have it all I guess. If talk doesn't come back, someone who has an archieve of the tech articles just transfer it here which already has quite a collection and still growing.

thank you
EDIT: this is the email i sent him
You are the ultimate jackass. You have done the worst possible thing to the DSM community. I wish upon you a plague beyond biblical proportions. You have destroyed everything DSMTalk was about, not to mention lost the vast collection of tech articles that will never be replaced. The only thing I can think of you could do to deserve to even live, would be to bring DSMTalk back the way it was, and to personally email everybody that has ever been a member with your personal apology.

Sincerely,
Mike Newcomb

Mike, if someone offered you 200k for your DSM... would you sell it? If you are smart you would. especially if you thought it was going to only get better and you could still use it.
Or maybe he jsut couldn't keep paying for it. better it was sold then jsut turn off completely...
And why are you mad at Ekool? I notice it is all the premium memebers that have thousands of posts that are really Irate... He brought it back from the dead once. Why get mad? You should say thanks for at least bringing it back and giving me a whole year to save any info i wanted off the site, before cashing out and letting it go... It's not like you guys didn't expect it to go down again.

Anyway, sorry a lot of you "premium/ultimate etc" talkers have to start over on your post count. BUt this site is good, decently moderated, and if the SMART and EXPERIENCED DSM'ers didn't run away from it to hide in isolation under "no new registration" at DSMTalk, then it could have been the site you guys always wanted. And it still can be if you stick around. IF you DON'T stay, then you you are missing out on the chance to build a stable reliable and great forum, even better than talk.

I get so tired of having to check 3 sets of experts opinions on 3-5 boards. Stay here and help out. There are some serious members here, and not much of the elitist attitude those of us who missed out on the open registration back when DSMtalk was invented tended to get from those guys..

rather be somewhere with serious dsm owners, just dont see that here, thats why i didnt like coming here, im glad a new forum's open.

Kind of a slap in the face to people who have been there for a while and even dedicated time to modding over there isn't it? I am sure Talk missed out on some good members during the closed reg. time, but it also kept a lot of idiots out as well. NABR has the same criticism.
I am sure you would have a different opinion if it was Tuners that was sold and not Talk.
I have been a member here for quite some time, but Talk always felt like home, and this was just a great place to visit for a change of pace, or for the fact tht the NT and often the Suspension Tech forums had some info that Talk didn't.
I hope what happened to Talk this week never happens here.

The bottom line is that no one really knows what's going on, not even ekool. A lot of folks are jumping the gun with new forums, etc. We can see that a lot of people were emotionally attached to DSMtalk. This isn't going to be easy.

I think what JDNSBR means that this site is different than DSMTalk.

I was a member of DSMTalk for about 3 months, got tired of the constant bitching between members. That won't happen here which is why I switched from DSMtalk to DSMTuners. I support the moderators of DSMTuners 100% with what they do.

Honestly, leave the DSMTalk bullshit on DSMTalk, don't bring it to DSMTuners. That's what I'm saying.

Hmm, I don't remember asking you what you thought. Taking shots at Talk is bullshit!!

I was a member of both forums and it's sad to see DSMTalk go away.

Honestly we all have a passion for the same cars and if we were all joined on one forum it would be all the better. Face it, DSMTalk is gone. Modified bought the whole thing and will be integrating it into autoforums.com. For better or worse thats how it's going to be. We have a lot of really hardcore members here and some knoob's as well. It's that way with all sites.

Personally I want to welcome all the DSMTalk members and I'm alreay petitioning right now for DSMTalk member to be recognized here as regular members right away if they join up and are considered new members and guys who were mods etc there to get some recgonition here if they woudl like it.

All we can do is try and pick up where we left off, leave our differences in the past, as that is where they are now, and move forward here with the best sites we can all contriubte to.

Unfortunately a lot of tech was lost on DSMtalk, lots that even I contributed to over the years. I joined in 2001 when there was so many as 5000 members or so it's a shame I know. Lets move forward and see what we can do from here.

I checked DSMtalk at 8:30 CST and its up. Its pretty slow buy its functioning.

It seems to be back to normal for now, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
