This morning when I tried to go on it redirected me to autoforums where it said DSM Talk had merged onto that site. Later when I tried the site was back up and everything seemed normal. Now when I try to go on it says it can't be found. I don't think it's that some people can go on and others can't, I think the site just keeps changing.

It's been working fine for me for the past hour or two. I am using normal Mozilla Firefox, everything is 100% normal for me. Hope it stays that way.

Anyone care to help me build up the forum I already have semi-established? It would be secondary to here, just so we can have a variety. Im kinda angry now that my 2nd favorite forum is now wasted. That doesnt mean we cant get together and make another one tho. My forum is semi-setup, needs member imput to be complete. I dont want to compete with this forum, but a variety is nice Im not gunna drop a link and make it look like im purposely spamming and whatnot, but the name of it is dsmpowered. It was a huge site with a ton of members that started over 5 years ago. It was (along with Tuners) what replaced the Talon Digest essentially and gave DSMers across the country a place to communicate with ease.

All I have to say is I hope this site never turns into what DSMtalk was and I sincerly hope it does not turn into what it has become with being bought out. As for what I have to say to the newcomers, read the rules. We don't need this community brought down by immaturity and idiotic behavior. So pay attention, read the rules, and everybody will get along.

I for one, would really like to know what you mean by this post?? Are you implying something? You need to realize that a lot of people on Talk supported you and brought you to where you are today even though you may not like some of the feedback you recieve. What type of feeling do you think a post like this leaves in a Talk members brain.

When I saw the same message I thought about one thing. Perhaps they transfered the files over for a limited time, to allow us to post and when whatever is updated, it will be transfered back?

Exactly! I don't see why so many people are making an honest attempt at pretending it's going to be around after they get back in there through a backdoor - it's gone, sold, no more! And yes, I am depressed, but there's nothing more to do than make the best of things here since this is the best general DSM site around now.

We need to find a valid solution to backup all the data.

Unless someone comes up with a clever scheme of parsing through the site and saving static HTML versions of every page, I don't see there being any way to back things up. All of that information is contained in a database with a user name and password that none of us decent folks have, behind a server which none of use have a user name or password for as well. It should also be considered that even if someone does catalog the content at DSMtalk, I think you'd end up being liable to autoforums now that they "own" the content so many of us helped to create.

Site is up when you use the anonymizer site to get to it, so who knows WTF is going on over there. I'm sure it'll be a matter of time before you can't get on with the anonymizer either. The whole thing is shady, especially with how the moderators were kept out of the loop with this.

dsmtalk hisory continued:
It shut down about 18 months ago (fall '04).
It came back in 6 months after being bought by ekool. It came back pretty noobed out. For sale sections, many ads, arcade, silly rules, anyone could register, but at least it was back, and the old data was saved. Some of the mods revolted and resigned at that time over the changes. Others mods stayed on.

Ekool layed really low over the past year. We haven't heard much from him.

Then this happened Saturday night. Seems like it has been in the works for about a month.

For me. Unless I go through a proxy. But honestly I should not have to. DSMtalk.com is the 1st dsm forum that I have ever joined back in 2000 when it came about. Really sucks that this is happening. But from what I have seen over there today through proxy the mods over there had no idea this was happening and still have no clue what is going on.

There has been a few mods that have posted over there today not knowing what is going on and not once has Ekool posted yet to explain what the hell was going on, sounds alittle fishy to me, but whatever.

I think what JDNSBR means that this site is different than DSMTalk.

I was a member of DSMTalk for about 3 months, got tired of the constant bitching between members. That won't happen here which is why I switched from DSMtalk to DSMTuners. I support the moderators of DSMTuners 100% with what they do.

Honestly, leave the DSMTalk bullshit on DSMTalk, don't bring it to DSMTuners. That's what I'm saying.

While a good idea I'm not sure if anyone can handle the scale there are over 1,000,000 posts. 134,000 threads.

Maybe we start with the important sub-forums; gen tech, advanced, electronics. And split it up by date, each person take a different month, or set of days. then zip the files and one person combine them into a giant archive the could be emailed around.
