DSMLink Problem! need help

hey guys my friend just got a 99GSX fully built,or said to be.The car came with DSM link and it keep's saying something like it's been timed out,anybody know what the means,the car is running really rich and wanna get it tuned thanks -andy

With mine i have to start the car then on the computer connect to dsmlink. If there is a problem after that go to Edit>Options>change your COM to a different one and see if that works.

Have your friend talk to the previous owner and get the DSMLink registration transferred over to the new owner, as well. DSMLink forums are full of good info about what can go wrong and how to fix it if it does.

Also, make sure he got the DSMLink cable and dongle from the owner. Apparently for 2Gs the cable is the registration key piece, instead of the EPROM itself like on the 1Gs.
