DSMlink as a datalogger?

So the question is:

Can I use the DSMlink software to datalog without a chip? Its not in my budget yet, but I will be getting it soon. The other options out there are just not good enough. I have looked at Tunnerstein, MMcD etc (even a decent one called Hand Held Halo [$50!]) .

I have the dsmlink software and a cable... can I just hook up and log? clearly I would not be able to modify anything, but would I be able to capture values?

Why not MMcD?

Personally, I think it's layout is excellent on a Palm IIIc color pda (cheap), and it logs just about everything you need to monitor.

In fact, if DSMLink's pda interface was like MMcD's...the world would be golden

Hi!
Im really excited to purchase DSMlink for my 91 GSX... However, at the moment, Im a bit strapped for cash.
I have a datalogger cable and the recommended Keyspan USB adapter, and I was wondering if it is possible to use your software to do logs until I can save the cash to purchase DSMlink... I have checked out MMcD for palm, as well as Tunerstein and Hand Held Halo, but I was not pleased at all with the results!

It's a good question and eventually the answer will be yes. But at the moment, the DSMLink laptop application only talks to a DSMLink ECU. The reason being that we have completely rewritten the factory communication protocol to work in a much faster manner. And it's that new form of communication that we support in the application, not the older factory MUTT style.

In the future, we plan to add a "factory" mode to the application just so you can datalog and do simple solenoid type tests without DSMLink at all. But at the moment, that's not possible.
