I recently bought a 95 gst and it ran perfect, It was the cleanest dsm I had driven. I was driving at about 55 MPH and all the sudden I lost all rpm's so I pulled over and it was smoking out the tail pipe with black smoke. Checked all vacuum lines, It seemed like it wasnt getting enough fuel so I pulled the filter and replaced it seemed clogged. No go so I replaced the fuel pump because the old one sounded weak started and spooled up good for about a minute then started sputtering at idle and wanting to stall again and wont rev past 4000 rpm's and sounds like its starving for fuel. Im going to check for spark when I get home.

Has anybody had this issue? If anybody can Help It would be really appreciated.

Update:
This is my first DSM and I didnt check the inter-cooler lines LOL..
The outlet pipe fell off because the hose clamp striped.

Sounds to me like you may have lost spark.:| May need to replace plugs and wires. Also might need to check the power transistor/ignitor and/or coil packs if you have no spark and plugs and wires are okay.
 
I can almost bet your power transistor went bad. Those things just crap out randomly. And you won't get spark to two cylinders. Sometimes all four.
The symptoms you described lead to that.
Exchange it out for a known good one and see if the problem goes away.
And black smoke out of the exhaust is a sign of being rich/having to much fuel. So it's not starving for fuel.
 
I was thinking the transisotr unit (Ignition module according to autozone as well) But would it still start if the module had went bad? Also any idea where it is located? I was thinking under the coil packs bot not 100% sure.
 
The three times I had bad ones my car still started. Ran on two cylinders but still ran.
Pull the plugs and place them close to a ground and crank the motor over. See if there is spark
If I remember right the transistor is on the right side of the motor. It's a flat thin rectangular box that should be bolted to a plate on the motor
 
Hello friend ! Once I had a problem with my power transistor...
My rev meter didn't work and my car was horrible (2 cylinders)

In my case I was lucky, because the Power Transistor got loose. Did you check it to see if it's loose ?
 
No I did not check to see if it was loose, It happened pretty late. I am going to go to a junk yard and pull one right after work. It will still run but its smoking black and it kinda sounds like it has a stroker kit put in it.. But it doesnt. Does that sound like that could be caused by this? Along with not being able to rev over 4000 and rough idle.

Same thing happened to me yesterday, cruising along fine then started sputtering and lost all power. Idling super rough eventually barely turning over then died out. Seemed like a loosing spark or rich running issue. Won't start now just turns over. Didnt start in the morning but i hit the gas tank and it fired right up. 91 Eagle Summit 4g15

Are you sure it's still not something with your fuel pump?
 
Yea it wasnt the issue to begin with I dont think but I threw a brand new one in and it will stay idling but runs terrible. Just to put it in perspective like 15 minuntes before it broke, from a 40 roll on the freeway with 4 people in the car I killed a civic si Turbocharged. So it was running perfectly.

So you got it resolved and it was just the intercooler line? Mine doesn't have turbo (4g15). I'm stumped why it turns over fine, runs on starter fluid but won't start. It ran as you described yours with the sudden super rough idle and no power, rev past 4000 etc before dying completely. All signs point to fuel pump I Just don't want to go through replacing fuel pump if it's not the problem like in your case. Thanks for any help!

This is why you don't just replace parts. You can test the fuel pressure and see if the pump is actually bad.

I wish I could but its not in my driveway, had to leave it at a shop 100 miles away from home. I pulled the line going into the fuel rail from the filter and wasn't getting any pressure there, no noise at the tank. Wish I checked the filter but couldn't get it off with the tools I had. However, that morning it wouldn't start but hitting the gas tank with a hammer made it fire right up and run fine for a few hours, even restarted a few times before suddenly misfiring. That first part to me suggests fuel pump. A shop had told me a few months ago that the pump was drawing too many amps.

Should I:

1) pay the shop $100 to diagnose exactly the issue
2) have them put in a fuel pump
3) go back to car this weekend with tools and fix what it needs myself
