Ive got a 95 Talon AWD with a rebuilt 7 bolt with stock internals with about 14k or so on the motor. It has an EVO III B16g, 550cc injectors, full exhaust, FMIC and a few other small things. It has a very slight tapping sound comming from the head, it doesnt sound major at this time at all. Anyway, I am taking it on a road trip to the Florida Keys and was wondering if with the current mods that I have will this car be reliable enough to make it there? It is about a 1400 mile trip. Also what different matinence type of things should I do before I go?

The mods themselves are not the question as they are not a problem (other than maybe gas mileage). The real question is "do you trust your work (or whoever) enough to travel 1400 miles away from the house in it?"

Only you can answer that.

I would do all the fluid/filter changes, check plugs. Check the condition of the hoses/belts. Check the condition of the tires, brakes. Then just a basic "spot check".....randomly creeper under the car looking for anything loose, missing. Maybe randomly check the tightness of the suspension attachment points, etc.

And bring some tools with you that can handle any basic job, like fixing couplers, clamps, and hoses. I always keep vicegrips, a small set of ratcheting combo wrenches 10m to 15mm, allen wrenches (for mbc and afpr), and couple screw drivers in the car. And/or get a AAA policy. $80 a year is worth it for that extra peace of mind.

Be careful boosting on the interstate in 5th gear i could see you melting something. Always carry some basic tools around with you. Also bring your mechanic on the trip LOL. Good Luck!

HAHAHA Yea, Ive gone through a few AC fans racing up and down the highway near my house. HAHA. Yea and i always travel with my mechanic, its kinda hard to leave him anywhere, its like were the same person and look exactly the same haha. Yea Im definitally going to bring my little tool set with me just in case. Thanks for the help guys.

Best piece of advice ever. I can't tell you how many times I've used AAA. This year alone I've probably used over 200$ in services, just off my 100$ membership. Plus you get discounts at certain hotels, etc. They help you plan trips, free maps, guides, travelers checks, etc.. Something to check out anyways.

Good Luck! I was down in FL a couple weeks ago. You can't beat that weather, mmm. :thumb:

I already have AAA, but I have to upgrade, I only have basic. It will only cover me for like 3 miles and its like 3 $ per mile after that. I need to get unlimited again, break down 5 mins from my house then have them tow it to FL for me. NO MILES TO ODOMETER!!! hahaha

haha, yeah get the premium. I think mines 100$ a year, and I get up to 100miles towing, 100$ off locksmith, etc etc.
Just don't dog on it all the way down there and you should be fine. I've taken several 1000mile trips and only broke down once, luckily it was only an alternator and I walked into town and picked one up at Autozone and swapped it on my car on the side of the I-70, haha.

Good Luck!

I'm a longtime member so I get the cheap renewal rate. Haven't used any services in 5 years, but it does allow me to ditch my spare tire / jack to save weight. :D
