What's up guys, my gf is in the process of buying a 96 RS and she's interested in modding it. We don't want to do a N/A -> Turbo swap so just the basic bolt-on's will be good enough. I've already done a search looking for dyno's for the parts we're interested in but can't find any...so can anyone show me any dyno's for the Greddy 4-1 Header, AEM CAI, and Borla Cat-Back? About how much hp should we see to the wheels? Thanks in advance all :)

with that and a high flow cat id estimate youd be somewhere between 12-20 hp gain at the most. id also use a jeep throttle body while you where at it though. if you really wanted to get some gain do what you listed add the throttle body and a 75 shot wet nitrous and youll be good and the engine will hold it fone (if over 75,000 miles id think twice without a rebuild though.) good luck.

jeep throttle body? wow...looks like we've got alot to learn if you're serious, and I highly doubt we'll be running any nitrous ;)

ya a jeep throttle body is a good upgrade for a 420a motor (which is what you have). Intake, header, and exhaust wont gain you much. I would say a good 12-15 at the wheels, if that. But that will definately be noticeable. I say go for it, and if u dont want to run a 75 shot of nitrous....you could always run a 50. It would be very safe to do that, and wouldnt damage the engine with just a 50 shot.

You should research the Jeep TB before trying it.

Remember, the TB's that were sold a while back were a hybrid of the Jeep TB and your stock 420a TB.

Read the whole thread to understand what is involved in the Jeep TB Mod

Last thing I read about the the TB, Doug (Doug99RS) was working on a 95 Jeep TB but was still working out some bugs.

IMO, you should look into the Modern Performance 60mm TB

I highly doubt you will find dyno charts for the header and cat-back. Best thing to do is to dyno her car with the items listed to find out the exact power increase.

Thanks for the advice as well as the response...I only asked about the dyno's for the different parts to get a general idea of how much power others were getting from them...do you guys have any suggestions on which setup provides the most hp/$$ ? As someone already mentioned, we know that these mods aren't going to turn back huge numbers but if you're going to buy stuff, why not get the most for your money :thumb:

Best bang for the buck would be nitrous, but you already stated that you do not want to go that route.

But if you want to save money, best items to get are a Ebay CAI, Pacesetter Header, and a custom 2.5" cat-back exhaust from your local muffler shop.

I agree with the mods listed, and if you are scared of nitrous go with the new ZEX wet kit. It is 100% safe and computer run. You flip you switch and it will give you a 35-55-75 shot at wipe open throttle in every gear. Trust me you wouldn't regret it.

PS

PS you will probably see the most power with the n/t with a nice set of cams. You have the 420a motor duel overhead cam and those add a lot of power and are pretty cheap.

how much hp would a 50 shot add, and is it safe and reliable for a 90,000 mile engine?

I just bought my car but am scared to upgrade it because of the high miles. I already had problems as soon as i got it (damn dealer!), it was missfiring but new wires took care of it...I still have an oil leak in the headgasket it seems.

I think a turbo would be out of the question because of such high mileage but maybe a small nitrous set up? I would def. be looking for something safe and reliable since I am no machanic and know hardly anything about cars...is any type of nitrous safe for me :(

A 50 shot of nitrous will give you an additional 50 HP.... thus a 50 shot. My suggestion is to not rush into any upgrades yet. RESEARCH your car and read. Before I ever started posting on this website, I read, and found that most of my questions were answered. Ive since then became very knowlegable as Im sure youll become if you continue to take interest and research. knowlege is power my friend. Good luck with your car.

thanks, i've been a lurker on this site for a couple of years now without an eclipse and I've def. learned a bit, but I'm just very bad with motors in general...I read how stuff works and all that (heh) but in the end I think any problems would have to be fixed by a machanic or maybe my bro or his friends.

I've learned that turbo is def. the way to get power but I've also read about engines not lasting (could be due to them playing with boost). I never thought of nitrous at all because from what I've heard it's very bad for DSM's, but our car has a different engine right? Is it stronger for nitrous or is nitrous still risky. Just a 50 shot i mean.

when talking about nitrous its always a risk, but with a well maintaned 420a and a nice 50-75 shot of wet nitrous preferably the zex kit that is computer driven and initiates at WOT your eliminating some of the risk. if you really want to make it reliable pay the extra grand or some (est) to buy forged pistons and have them installed that would help out a lot. but if you read around on this board there are several people who have had nitrous on there cars and not had a problem for a couple years but any performance modification on stock internals will eventually break them down and make them fail. good luck
